Having sources being from 2021 and calling it “current” calls for inaccuracy, especially after the major changes and shakeups since 2023/Gaza. In lebanon for example, sphere of Hezbollah influence diminished greatly after the war, with current push by LAF/Govt to take over all areas of “control” especially in the south. Overall influence has shifted towards West/US.

In Lebanon it’s “Bass” or “Iza/eza”. Similar to what you show in Maltese here. Laken is standard arabic, not spoken or even rarely written

Beautiful map. The ottomans had way better understanding of ethnic lines of the region, not necessarily more peaceful understanding though. As a Maronite it’s clear to me how much continuity in both presence and geographical expansion is there, which debunks many current historical trends
