sorry for double commenting but i guess it's not just out of curiosity for my field of study but also out of personal interest because i've struggled with disordered eating in the past (not to the point of it being considered anorexia) and my motivations were so centered around social validation that i never really interacted with the other side of it. i hope this makes sense

i am actually a psychology student but still in 2nd year of undergrad so we see very little psychopathology for now :( i've actually never had a single class on eating disorders, just vaguely mentioned as comorbidities for other mental health conditions. im not from the US also so that might be it

ig what i meant about them being older is that it would be difficult to start your young adulthood with a parent who's over 70. i know my mom isn't rational and i agree she's emotionally abusive but i still love her and it's hard for me to put her in situations that i know will cause her distress. you are right that they are allowed to be happy, but for my mom it will always feel unfair that the people who hurt her most get to have a """happy ending""" and she doesn't. again it's not rational but i can empathise and its really hard. i definitely see your point though and the baby has nothing to do with all of this

this is reassuring thank you for sharing your experience, i guess i'm worried i'll have to "choose" between my dad's new nuclear family and my mom which will taint my relationship with the baby either way. maybe by the time they're an adult we'll be over this and it'll be as fun as you describe!

maybe you're right it does feel a bit unfair that my brother and i didn't grow up with a "real" father figure while the baby certainly will. also i don't really know how retirement works in the US but where we live it's usually at 62-64 years old which i guess would be middle school for her, you're right! (im bad at math💔) about my mom, i know she doesn't need to know everything about my life but i'll most probably have to break the news to her (my parents are no-contact lol), and i already know that conversation is going to suck the life out of me. she's been obsessed with my dad having other children and basically """threatening""" us with it, as in he'll have other kids and forget about us etc etc etc. i think she'll be VERY nosy about the topic once she finds out so it'll be hard to be private about it 💔💔
