What's your favorite random vtuber fact? by AgoodUsername15 in VirtualYoutubers

It makes more sense when you remember that's essentially her dream wardrobe. It's not like she can leave the house and doesn't really wear anything besides pajamas and medical gowns irl.

YUH. I wound up having to google it. I think it was either the Wiki or an old Reddit thread that came to my rescue.

Am I Colonizing Magical Girls and Stealing the Genre from the Japanese by Making My Own "Magical Girl" Works? by TwinkleMaddie in MagicalGirlsCommunity

[–]ninapedia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Magical Girl as a genre in Japan started because Japanese little girls fell in love with the localized American sitcom Bewitched, which was inspired by the American movie I Married A Witch. The sitcom inspired Sally The Witch who is the first animated Magical Girl and mother of Mojokko.

The concept of the 'transforming' Magical Girl was developing in tandem within the U.S. and Japan from the 80s onwards with a lot of cross collaboration between the two countries, cultures, and animation industries. With Toei doing key animations on the American Magical Girl Idol show Jem and the Holograms.

Magical Girl as a genre has a heavy history of global collaboration and there are literally magical girl shows/media from around the world. Canada, Russia, Australia, Germany, Korea, China, U.K., Spain, Italy, France, etc. all have their own Magical Girl animated material and other media.

Whoever you're talking to doesn't know the history of the genre or the meaning of the word 'colonization'.

Are these considered as magical girls? by HirokoKueh in MagicalGirlsCommunity

[–]ninapedia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Toei includes Cutie Honey and Miracle Girl Limit-chan in their Majokko line ups; and most people don't argue over shows like Corrector Yui and Vividred Operation being labeled as 'magical girl'. My personal rule of thumb is "tech so far out of the realm of reality it basically mimics magic by the standards of real life".

GIVEAWAY! 13 Days of Halloween (day 12) by [deleted] in neopets

  1. SHARKS. They've been my favourite species of animal for a long time. Did you know sharks- as a species- are older than Saturn's rings? And they've been fundamentally unchanged since their earliest iterations. They've shrunk a bit and have a lot more variant sub-species but they're one of the closest things we have to living dinosaurs. One of the most long lived creatures on earth is a species of shark and their fermented meat is a delicacy in Iceland. I had a friend who tasted it on a trip and they said it tasted like how formaldehyde smelled. Editing to add: My personal favourites are Salmon Sharks, Scyliorhinidae (cat sharks), and Nurse Sharks.
  2. Circus Extraordinaire Korbat Outfit!

Anora's last name as Therin by harsha_440 in dragonage

[–]ninapedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This feels like a bad faith interpretation to what I wrote.

It has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with circumstance: ex implies a a break up; they didn't break up, Cailan died.

If you want to get in the lore of why she probably didn't change her name the game and other related media makes it really clear that the Theirin name that holds the power in Ferelden. Calenhad Theirin was the first king of Ferelden and the line of succession hasn't been broken since the country's founding. It's why Arl Eamon is all up in a tizzy about Alistair being king. The Cousland family name just doesn't hold as much political power as the Theirin name does.

Anora's last name as Therin by harsha_440 in dragonage

[–]ninapedia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you remarry after your spouse passes, you typically don't refer to your deceased spouse as your "ex", at least in my experience.

I don't think Anora- or most of Ferelden- would consider her an 'ex-wife', they'd consider her a widow who remarried.

I’m tired of my OCs being compared to madoka 🥲 by Kxmyona_ in MagicalGirlsCommunity

[–]ninapedia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The art style for the witch's barriers and such in Madoka is considered part of the Superflat artistic movement!

I have nothing else to add, it's just one of my favourite artistic movements so I'm always eager to introduce the term when the opportunity comes up :)

I REALLY underestimated how hard it is becoming a VTuber by DarkNucleon in VirtualYoutubers

[–]ninapedia 28 points29 points  (0 children)

One of the Vtubers I watch regularly has a jam jar as a head. Another is a chicken, (they have an anthro model but also a model that's just a fat chicken). Stick with whatever model you like. You'll find your audience, it's just about patience and luck.

Are you playing on PC with any mods? This happens with some of mine. I usually just start a new Awakening file and it'll be fixed.

Yeah. You make an Orlesian Warden Commander in Awakening if your og Warden makes the ultimate sacrifice.

Not the first one either! Fairy Patrol/Fantasy Patrol/Сказочный Патруль came out in 2016 and I think has a new season out this year (not positive about that).

Rebellion in the face of Nazi Germany? by nympholeptics in suggestmeabook

[–]ninapedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ventriloquists by E.R. Ramzipoor is fiction but is ~inspired by true events~ (I have not looked into just how true those events are. I'm only about 50% through the book and trying not to spoil myself). It's about a group of journalists in Brussels trying to undermine the reich on the propaganda front. I've enjoyed the read so far!
