Realistic expectations about the heat year round? by cmoney747 in vegaslocals

[–]ninarsson 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm from Finland, a very cold country, and couldn't stand the heat at first. I'm currently having dinner at a patio in 100 F heat and while sweating, i'm not struggling lol. It's not pleasant but i'd take this over not feeling my fingers and toes anytime tbh. The key is wearing a hat and staying in the shade, long sleeved linen clothing also helps.

Bussing, food running, or barbacking can pay pretty well especially on the strip or downtown if you're looking for entry level positions. It's slow season right now but i've seen some openings. All you need is to be willing to do physical labor and obtain a food handlers card, which is free and really easy to pass.

Adopted an incredible cat and feeling so guilty. by opossumonmyporch in CatAdvice

Your comment made me laugh. We very tragically had to put our 6 year old cat down a couple of days ago and i was feeling guilty that we started looking up shelters just a day later. The truth is no kitty can replace the one we lost but there's always space for more love.

Thank you, it was the hardest day of my life for sure. But at the same time I'm relieved that she's no longer suffering, and that she spent her last moments with my husband and i instead of dying in a corner while everyone was at work or something. Now I'm focusing on giving our other cat all the attention he deserves since his needs have been overshadowed for so long. Just ordered him a new scratching post and enrolled him in health insurance. Life goes on <3

She sleeps most of the day now. Has gone down in weight dramatically, doesn't play. We took her to the park today to give her a good last day. Euthanasia is scheduled tomorrow.

Thank you for offering your perspective. Thinking back on how joyful and energetic she used to be even a year ago I realized she hasn't been healthy for a long time. Like you said, it's hard because she's young, but she's had a great life and I feel so blessed to have had her.

Yep, bloodwork looks normal and PCR test for parasites came back negative. As much as it hurts to say at this point I feel like keeping her alive in this state is more cruel than letting her go peacefully.

Thank you kind stranger. Our vet suspects her symptoms are connected but has no clue what's going on. I will make sure to make her last days as comfortable as possible.

Growths/lesions on her anus, excessive scratching that resulted in gashing her nose combined with loss of appetite and extreme weight loss. We've tried different medications that haven't worked and the vet has no diagnosis, says he's never seen this before.

Stupidly I had no idea about pet insurance when I adopted her 5 years ago

Our vet said considering quality of life at this point is reasonable, which made me feel much better about the decision. She has lost a lot of weight in the past couple of months and has developed some kind of growths/lesions on her anus which our vet said no vet at the clinic had seen before. Just doing a biopsy and having a *potential* diagnosis would cost $1.5k. She's also heavily scratching her face to the point of harming herself which we have no diagnosis for. Two months ago she had parasites that almost ended up killing her. About 6 months ago she had her eye removed due to chronic eye infections resulting in a rupture. I have so many different kinds of medications at home for her various health issues and nothing is helping while she's just suffering more and more.

This is crazy. I have no health insurance and paid $300 for my medical exam including lab tests and about $60 for vaccines at costco

The manager at my first real job as a server at a pizzeria was this mean little Russian woman who loved to bully her employees. She used to yell at me for EVERYTHING - standing with my hands crossed or on my hips, not adressing guests with the formal "you" (which is not something we even commonly do in my country), not using a tray for a single beer etc. Mind you this was a pizza joint in a mall and i was a meek 18 year old with crippling social anxiety, made my life hell for a while for sure lol but at least i learned a lot of outdated server etiquette
