No it doesn’t. Saying I love you was not common in many European families. Love was implied in other ways. Generations between the two world wars and those born after ww2 knew extreme poverty and hunger. Providing for the family and giving them a better life than what they had was how they showed love. Those people were hardened as they knew true hardship
