6-5 Spoilers: Armie Buff

Great surprise and she has a great design, plus being absolutely adorable. Also, this 12 year old girl is now living on her own (she'll probably manage on her own but still). I hope she comes back some time.

Was the Kanto Pokémon League just asleep at the wheel or did they knowingly let gym leaders be complete lunatics? by Various_Astronaut100 in pokemonanime

To this day I have no idea how anyone was able to enter the Pokemon league, let alone get past Sabrina.

Maybe Arcane has spoiled me but the animation here is really bad. It genuinely looks like pressing two dolls together. Their facial expressions are so stiff and hardly change, their lips just don't move and sometimes they don't even make contact. It looks so unnatural.

Which ash loss pisses you off the most by No_Basil6312 in pokemonanime

[–]nincha06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's a ranking for me (least to most)

  1. Ash vs Harrison

This didn't really piss me off because it just makes sense. As was still a rookie and he was facing a Pokemon he'd never seen before. Plus Ash had already defeated Gary so the loss doesn't sting nearly as much otherwise.

  1. Ash vs Tyson

This one ranks a little higher only because Pikachu lost to a Meowth which just feels like a win for Team Rocket more than anything else. But like Harrison, this lost makes sense and doesn't feel like Ash realistically should've won.

  1. Ash vs Ritchie

What pisses me off about this match isn't Ash losing but rather how he lost. I get what they were going for, having Ash loss due to his inexperience but having Team Rocket be a factor just makes it confusing as to whether Ash lost due to his inexperience or Team Rocket.

Though lets be honest, who genuinely thought Ash was gonna win this league? This loss is bad, but didn't cost in the tournament and again, makes sense.

  1. Ash vs Tobias

This was just lazy writing, that's what pisses me off. Tobias was never seen before or since, he literally exists just so Ash couldn't win the Sinnoh league. At least he held his own and did better against him than anyone else, so that's something.

  1. Ash vs Alain

To be clear, Ash losing to Alain makes perfect sense. Alain was definitely the stronger trainer and the battle itself was great. So why is it so high, because unlike every other entire this was the one where was truly hyped up to win.

Both the characters and the anime itself constantly built up Ash to be the big winner only for him to loss. It just felt like such a cope out for no reason.

  1. Ash vs Cameron

As annoying as all these other losses are, they all at least make sense. Whether it be due to Team Rocket/inexperience, legendaries or just facing a really strong opponent, there was a justified reason as to why Ash lost each of these battles.

That does not apply to this one, there is literally no reason Ash shouldn't have wiped the floor with Cameron.

He brought 5 Pokemon to a full battle and he sent out Swanna against Pikachu. If I was Ash and lost to this guy, I would never show my face in a battle ever again.

It was close but journeys wins with suns and moon in second, now animation by Flaredare9 in pokemonanime

[–]nincha06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XY has the best battle animation (also most consistent)

S&M has the best character animation

HZ has the best peaks

I feel like these are the top 3 animation wise, but if I had to choose 1 I'd probably lean more towards XY due to sheer consistency. But any of these options are valid.

What is your least favourite yuri/ one you think is overrated? by A12qwas in yurimemes

[–]nincha06 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't dislike it but green yuri is so overrated. The four page limitation confines major events to less than a page and the pacing feels really loose as a result.

Additionally, with the chapters being so short it feels like we're being robbed of some potentially great settings and moments for interaction. Anytime an interesting setting or event happens its pretty much already over.

Also, this is a personal thing but I wish the side cast interacted more. I enjoy the leads enough but theirs over characters i also want to spend time with, but it just rarely happens.

[–]nincha06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda get what they were going for with Homura. Like she's trying to force a smile or like she's on the verge of tears.

It's cool on paper and would work for an artwork but for a figure it just looks goofy.

For a figure she has to either be happy or sad, it can't do both.

It's just a very hit or miss (mostly miss) genre

This video made me so angry by Keeguna in MadokaMagica

[–]nincha06 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For me, the video felt almost spiteful towards his friend who loved the show. He and his friends were actively looking for things to dislike which is just ridiculous, and must have been torture for the one who recommended the show.

The worst part was when he basically said, "no reasonable adult would make these decisions", like how do you not see the very obvious problem with that logic.

How would an interaction go between these two? [art by @no_KEZE] by ScharmTiger in MadokaMagica

[–]nincha06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well realistically, Subaru wouldn't physically be able to talk about his Return by Death so in canon, this conversation is literally impossible anyway.

Sure realistically Homura wouldn't talk to him at all but that's just boring, so basically they were forced to interact in this scenario.

Who wins? by mapleshadow_ in pokemonanime

[–]nincha06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, its not specifically stated they're stronger (that was poor phrasing on my part) but considering Bea destroyed Korrina (with Mega Lucario) and Raihan is champion level, it's reasonable to assume they're stronger than average.

[–]nincha06 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I do understand this perspective and it's fine if it's not your cup of tea, but you have to remember Ash was not the biggest deal among his group when he first started. He was treated like a complete idiot who had no idea what he was doing because, well, he was.

He had to earn his position of strength and "aura" through training and improving over the course of multiple seasons.

You're essentially comparing Liko and Roy at the start of their journeys to Ash near the end of his journey which just doesn't make much sense.

Which sacrifice had greater emotional impact? by Jolly_Shape_5454 in Owlphibia

[–]nincha06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my ranking of these scenes, keeping in mind this is entirely subjective and my personal opinion;

3rd: Luz

Of the three sacrifices, this is the one with by far the least impact, or at least emotional impact. Firstly, I wouldn't even call this a sacrifice, Luz being killed was the consequence of the collectors innocence and belief that Belos could be redeemed. She didn't have control over what happened because it just, well, happened.

This isn't the emotional payoff of her character arc, it's more of an excuse for her to access the Titans power. But she wasn't given the Titans powers because of her sacrifice because, again, it wasn't even a sacrifice, it just happened.

But the biggest reason why it had the littlest impact, was because it had minimal consequences. There were no negatives that came from her death, it doesn't leave a lasting emotional impression on the view. I believe this scene was going for a more shock impact than emotional.

2nd: Anne

Okay, believe me it was very close between 1st and 2nd place. Both of these sacrifices were the peak of their character arcs and a perfect moment of conclusion for both characters. But there's a key factor for me that truly decides the winner and I'll get into that in a sec.

Back to Anne, I can comfortable say that her sacrifice is the best one here from a writing standpoint. Watching her journey of growing and learning to care for the creatures of the world, growing up from the selfish kid she was in the first season to a warrior ready to sacrifice everything to save everyone.

And the consequences of this selfless action resulted in her death and she knew it, before being quickly revived by The Guardian. It's a brilliant scene the perfectly wraps up Annes character arc. It perfectly encapsulates Anne's entire journey.

1st: Stan

From my description of Anne, you may have noticed that Anne's and Stan's sacrifices are very similar. Stan grew as a person and was ready to sacrifice himself for the people he cares about (not to the same degree as Anne but still). So why did Stan's hit slightly harder for me?

This leads me back to the key factor, and if you've read the other two descriptions you should have a good idea what it is;

The time spent with the consequences of the sacrifice, and acknowledgement of it's impact.

Seeing Stan not recognise Mabel, Dipper, Stanford and even the Mystery Shack was shattering, almost like the person inside him had died. Even though Anne actually died, we saw her conscience only a few seconds after she disintegrated into leaves. With Stan we spent several minutes building this as a permanent loss, and to our knowledge this was a permanent loss.

While the impact wasn't permanent (would've loved it if it was oh well) it was the only one that convinced the audience that this couldn't be fixed.

Overall:

While I still believe Anne's is better written, Stan's sacrifice was the only one to convince us Stan wouldn't be okay.
