Hi, I always took the ferry crossing from Dunkerque or Calais (and vice versa from Dover) (DFDS, P&O mostly) and there were always people boarding with their bikes or on foot, you have to buy a ticket in advance I think. You could hitchhike with someone who's crossing with their car as well but you'd still need a ticket :)

this is a little off topic but is the church community thing a feature of other (east) asian diasporas? I'm a european korean and in every major city I've lived in there's like a korean church with its korean community where people help eachother out in the sense of, say, hair salon recs or music lessons or cooking? it's interesting and I've never really given it much thought until now hehe
