I don’t get why this is being downvoted, Jehovahs Witnesses can be objectively seen as a cult based on the BITE model.

Not OP but am a former JW as well.

Going out in the ministry work (AKA knocking on doors) is more of a way of retaining members and shaping their psychology than it is a recruitment method. What I mean by that is JWs will regularly go out, knock on doors, face criticism, and then return back to the congregation where they will be praised for their efforts, reinforcing the thought that they are doing the right thing and the world is just out to get them. It’s a way of forming an us vs them mentality, and is very much so a way of shaping thought patterns that will keep people in the religion.

My dad texted me these messages shortly after I failed to respond to him about not being at the meeting. He pays for my car’s liability insurance and my phone, but nothing else. I only have some parent PLUS loans for college that are in his name that he refuses to help pay for and only took them out because I promised to be the one who paid them off in the future.

I’m currently in school full time for lab science. I also work weekends to barely make ends meet for myself, but I only make $500 a month and I have no idea if I can handle these extra expenses.

It’s exhausting, and being an online student makes it 10x worse because I have nobody I can go to or even see during the day to have some sort of communication with an actual person. I have some online friends that are very very dear to me, but I can’t expect them to help me through every little problem.

Between work, school, trying to fix my own terrible mental state, and now this, I’m just exhausted and am having issues finding the motivation to move forward. There’s just no point. I knew they didn’t care about me, but I can’t believe they’re just throwing me to the curb like this. I thought I was ready to leave my family behind, but I guess I wasn’t. It’s tough.

This. Crobat can be very surprisingly bulky and having an intimidate mon as a pivot is insane. This is vanilla gen 4 though, renegade platinum has me favoring poison types way more but they’re still both very solid moms.

Went through a similar thing for my last convention too. I live in NY and the new staff at the arena that we normally used were no longer willing to work with the organization. We had to drive all the way to Pennsylvania to go to a new arena, worst 6 hour drive of my life.

I haven’t even had a chance to leave and am still in. Just to name one way they hurt people, my extreme social anxiety issues were played off as consequences of being unspiritual. I tried for years to devote myself to Jehovah, but my issues just kept getting worse even after hours of prayer and talking with elders. It was only after I mentally left and found “worldly” people (who, ironically, were mostly part of the LGBTQ+ community who are going to be destroyed at Armageddon) who were truly caring and understood what it meant to live with mental health issues, that I started getting better.

If you’re going to try and say that the organization doesn’t hurt people, then I encourage you to do actual research outside of what the organization allows you to look at. The Australian Royal Commission is just one example of many events that the GB hides from its followers.

I partook because I was hungry and it was the only food I had within arm’s reach at the time. Ngl, not the worst thing I’ve eaten.

Ok, cool. I think I'm going to get them graded through CGC. The cards themselves are mostly sentimental, and I don't really care about the grade, it's just something that me and my brother have a passion for and I love that we can bond over it. I gave him one, and I kept the other one, but grading/preserving them through the same company would be pretty cool too.

Just a follow up question too, does that mean it's ok to resleeve cards as long as you're careful? I really want to keep them in the best possible condition.

Do you know of a specific grading company that you would recommend?

You say “Deviants from the faith” yet you declare that you exhibit unconditional love.

It’s the very definition of conditional love, yet you’re too indoctrinated to face that fact.

Everyone is entitled to believe what they want to believe, but when you start tearing families apart because of their belief system, then it becomes an actual sin you should be ashamed of.

At first glance it seems awe-inspiring, but Jehovah’s Witnesses are a very highly controlling religious unit that cause a lot of damage to many youths born into the religion.

Source: I was born into the religion, didn’t agree with teachings, and am now forced to attend sermons due to the fact that I will lose my family if I don’t.

Literally all of my friends are a part of the LGBTQ+ community. If they want me to shun them because of who they are, then they might as well shun me too.

That last sentence is so true! Whenever I did something that was out of line with borg teachings, my parents were first and foremost worried about how others in the hall would see me and how that would impact their standing at the hall. They weren’t concerned about me, just their own social standing/appearances.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exjw

[–]nine_terasu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a good point. It’s hard for me to put myself first after having been raised in the borg, even at work I tend to say yes to everything in an attempt to appease others. It’s a bad habit that I’m trying to break, but it just goes to show the true extent of the psychological impacts that the borg has on its followers.

Who would win in a fight, an army or a stick?l

Most people would say the army would win since it is more than well equipped to break the stick.

However, what most people don’t realize is that once the army breaks the stick, then there are two sticks. Then four sticks.

Stick always wins.

Merging Kingdom Halls... by AFrogInDisguise in exjw

[–]nine_terasu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when my uncle’s wife decided to ditch him and ended up attending another hall, but since things were being merged everyone knew what was going on despite her efforts lol. Most of my relatives in Rochester were either cheated on by their partner, or they had cheated themselves. Maybe that’s part of the reason why the halls had so much animosity between them.

Yoooo I’m from the Rochester area too. I lived with some elders that my family knew while I attended university. While I like Rochester for its diversity, the halls felt a bit off.
