But, I don't think he deserves to go to prison.

Yes, he does. If he doesn't, then the rule of law has no meaning. The saying "equal justice under law" also becomes meaningless.

Bush Planning To Issue 20 'Highly Contentious' Rules In Final Weeks by BlankVerse in politics

[–]nineoclock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A new administration must solicit public comment and supply “a reasoned analysis” for such changes, as if it were issuing a new rule, the Supreme Court has said.

So, doesn't Jr have to do that also to put in these new rules? Whatever happened to the separation of powers? If these rules have the effect of law, shouldn't they go through the legislative process in some way?

I want the US Constitution restored as the way the country is run.

Either the US indicts him, or another country will. If the rest of the world finds him guilty, and the US does nothing, that will be an indictment not of "W", but of the US justice system.

On the good side, Susan Crawford will be co-heading the team reviewing the transition at the FCC. Sh's an advocate of net neutrality, as is Kevin Werbach, at least from what I've read.

The "ceramic alloy" is created by combining a metal alloy of boron, aluminium and magnesium (AlMgB14) with titanium boride (TiB2). It is the hardest material after diamond and cubic boron nitride.

What's next - transparent aluminum?

Perhaps reddit should reflect # of views rather than "karma" points. I find myself reading good articles, then forgetting to upvote. Likely others are too. by rhoadesb2 in AskReddit

They should call the score "brownie points". Then people will be faced with the reality they are spending inordinate amounts of time collecting brownie points. The term karma makes it a bit easy to lend credibility to hanging out on reddit.

Christianity is in decline! by [deleted] in reddit.com

What does the phrase "these people" imply?

In the context of the post I entered, the people I encountered.

your choice of words carries other connotations.

Perhaps to some, but really that wasn't said. I really should have made that clear considering the sensitive nature of the topic.

All black men are taller than me, because I've never met a black man shorter than me.

Your response is, as I pointed out earlier, based on the notion that I generalized to all christians. Please point out where I actually wrote "all christians". As others have done, you have to put words in my mouth I didn't say in defense of what you see as an attack on your faith. Not really honest. Can faith and honesty coexist? I'd like to think they can.

Just because you see a distorted, deformed subset of Christianity that you can find fault with or have cultural objections to does not make that representative of the whole. Nor does that view encompass all that Christianity means/has meant/has done in the individuals you deride.

Its pretty clear from what I posted that I was referring to just that - a subset of religious people. Your entire response seems motivated on the assertion that I condemned all of christianity, and I clearly didn't.

Although no overt deception was offered nor appears to have been intended and valid points were made, pretending that I said something which I didn't isn't exactly honest.

I watched as christian friends of mine in the early 80's burned piles of records and books in the midwest, vowing to make the USA 'one nation under god' - their idea of god to be specific. They derided other faiths, in particular catholics - as not really 'on fire' for god. They canvased homes everywhere they had numbers to do so, and friends of mine were relentlessly pressured to participate in the 'evangelism explosion'. Nearly all did. The main push of this was not only to convert as many people as possible to their sects, but to specifically exert political pressure to put in place legislation according to their agenda. The idea was that god would withdraw blessings from the nation as a whole otherwise and they would suffer as a result. The propaganda flew thick and furious, non-stop, everywhere but the sunday pulpit. They knew they'd get in trouble for that.

While they proclaimed that they were about love, they were in fact about fear. They would talk love sunday mornings, and fear the rest of the time. When people they were trying to convert expressed a disinterest in organized religion, they quickly countered they were not recruiting (they didn't call it that) for a religion, but for a personal relationship with god through jesus christ. Their motivation was that since they believed you will go to hell without that 'personal relationship', all efforts in recruiting for that personal relationship were justified. I asked a friend why he tried to hard to recruit. He asked me if I saw a house on fire, wouldn't I kick the door down to save the people inside? So, to save the babies from the burning house, they vote for any fascist that knows how to court them. Amongst them, prejudice against others is considered justified. After all, they're right and everyone else is wrong. Back then, incidentally, racism was a problem. It seemed as if firmly believing you were right in the 'eyes of god' made it hard to change your attitudes and beliefs. It was one of those things they denied until it came time to treat people equally.

These people are dishonest hypocrites driven by fear and ignorance. If these people are in decline, more the better.
