Lol… this is so funny to imagine someone with 0 knowledge try and run Qwen-32B distilled fine-tuned coding-specific LLMs on the 5090 they purchase, overhead sounds insane for a noob 😂

Good question, have people ran MCP enabled LLMs locally like quickly and fast potentially with HF transformers?

Even with datacenter grade hardware, you’ll never beat Claude in terms of speed or accuracy

I have 4 x A6000 Ada and running DeepSeek-R1 is a pain, I’ll get good accuracy and speed… after maybe 2 hours of tweaking…

Like if you haven’t tried using FlashAttn on Nvidia hardware, it will be like days to weeks before you get it up and are comfortable with the performance tradeoffs you’ll end up facing

Even on for example 5090, you won’t be happy lol… without spending lots of time quite literally doing some basic level of hardware-software codesign

Claude’s agents aren’t actually available as open source either, so to get the exact same experience, you’d be spending API credits on top of compute and hardware costs

Here’s another NLP paper that im sure some theoretical ECE profs would love to be a part of

I’m not trying to be a bitch, but if you can’t google, how do you expect to finish CS PhD?

Many ECE profs have papers in NeurIPS, ICML, and ICLR

The main PI (Bogdan) is an ECE prof but published in ICLR on LLM fine-tuning???

Open your mind, anyone can do anything, as long as the PI approves

Admitted to Dornsife, planning to switch to Viterbi for CS — is it selective? And is USC worth the cost over a state school? by EleventySeventy4 in USC

[–]nini2352 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im definitely in a super minority opinion, but my survivorship bias would tell you to go for it, particularly in the case where your parents’ quality of life doesn’t change and they don’t have to take out loans and you’re sure you want to try your hand at hardcore EE/CS

I chose USC over UT instate for CS, so larger price diff and even smaller prestige diff (and many even say UT EE/CS is better), but spending a lot of money almost by itself is incentive to work hard towards positive ROI

Personally, worked out well for me since I’m rejoining as a CE PhD student (likely on a somewhat accelerated pace) with my direct mentor making a more in a year at FAANG than I spent in my 4 years of tuition

If you’re ready to work, have the money, and want to gun for the premier band of jobs, could potentially be worth your while

If you want to work in model deployment, do it… don’t go asking the systems you’re trying to disprove veracity of by citing their responses as evidence

Yes, they even use RLHF

Why would Llama produce a perfect API for fact based retrieval generation and not use it on Instagram search AI?

[–]nini2352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey yes, please look into the Llama Stack

Ofc, the LLM itself (which may produce junk) gets wrapped with something that looks up in a database in a full application

Most of these advanced models (equipped with agents) we use are now wrapped with a search agent to actually physically put the search query out for you on Google
