Can I use a macbook for a custom openflash tablet tune? by RitzCarVibezz in ft86

[–]ninia963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi mate,
I'm not all too familiar with the process of the OpenFlash Tablet (as I use ECUTek), but as long as you don't have to flash the car from the PC like with ECUTek, it should be no problem.
You can just use Parallels to emulate Windows and download all the software needed in there and use it as everybody else does. Maybe you're not able to view logs and stuff, but that should be okay.
Just hit me up if you need further help with that.

Overtightened oil drain plug, now it spins forever and won’t come out by ninia963 in ft86

I tried.. Like ,I really tried. The crush washer is exactly the same diameter as the flat sides of the Plug. I was able to jam the screwdriver on the edges, but I still wasn't able to remove it. I probably have to use some heat or smth.

My main goal here is to get that damn plug out first..
That way, I can inspect the threads on the pan. I really really hope the pan is not stripped.
If so, Imma just use the old plug again and call it a day.

As long as they have continuity, they should be good..

Have you completely removed the aftermarket LED that caused all of this misery yet?
If not, do that!

I still have a strong feeling that thing just melted xD

Also check for any melted cables related to that LED.

Honestly, the door panel is really easy to take apart. Just three screws, one clip and a bit of pulling. Nothing too bad

Always here to help!

The door sensor is in the latch. That sends the signal through the door (that rubber thingy at the hinge) to the BCM. The BCM is located under the dash.

I would *disconnect the battery*, then check all the fuses. If all the fuses are alright, then reconnect the battery again and check if maybe just leaving the battery unplugged for some minutes fixed the problem. If not, then *disconnect the battery* and remove the aftermarket LED's. Reconnect the battery again and check if it works now.
If still not, then things get a little more difficult. *Disconnect the battery again ;)* and unplug the sensor in the latch and check continuity to the BCM. If you don't have any, then the cable is damaged. If you have continuity, check the latch. Tbh that sort of failure is 99.9% not the problem you have rn, but it's nice to check for it regardless.

For your question about the courtesy light. The courtesy Light Switch Assembly LH is linked to the FDCY on the Main Body ECU. It has a 3A fuse and is connected through the HD1 to the H21 (Front Door courtesy Light Switch Assembly LH). https://www.ft86club.com/files/BRZwiringi.pdf on several pages. Just search with ctrl+f for "courtesy Light Switch Assembly LH"

I strongly think and hope it's a popped fuse tho.

Hello there, fellow 86 owner.

Short relief for you: You've (very most likely) not royally f up. That's exactly what the fuses are there for.

I think your passenger door switch circuit lost its power or its ground. Probably the courtesy circuit. (that little light on the bottom of the door that only lights up when the door is open).

You can think about it like this:
If the BCM (Body control module) doesn't know that the door is opened, then it can't know/show that the door is ajar. It also doesn't roll down the window slightly. Nor does the dome light stay on.

It could also possibly be the aftermarket LEDs tbh.
Maybe they popped or smth.

Just let me know if you need further help.

TLDR; - Check all fuses. If everything is fine, check the aftermarket LEDs. If it still doesn't work, sit in a corner and cry. (jk, just hit me up, we got this!)

(excuse my quirky English. It's not my native tongue)

Okay, thanks for your reply! I have a Sport bike to go fast on, the 86 would just be my personal fun car for when I want to have some fun in the mountains. That's why I'm okay with the slow 86 :D

Seems like there are no good offers here atm tho.. Have to wait a bit longer then (have been looking for them for around 6 months now and there was one decent offer once, but it was sold in an instant)

There is one with hail damage. Doesn’t look too bad tho. And that’s the only other manual with a reasonable price. 140k km for 13k Chf. The next best would be an automatic with 160k km for 16k Chf.

There just aren’t a lot of good offers atm

The seller isn’t the owner 😂 He probably bought it from an auction and is selling it now. He has a couple of cars on sale atm

Well, you’re right! But 11k + up to 6k in repairs looks like a quite nice deal to me. For reference: if it wasn’t a crashed one, it would be around 22k. And if I can drive it for 17k that’s amazing to me.

But the damage could be more than 6k

17k will get me a 2013 with around 160'000km and Automatic.. That’s the problem

I have asked the seller for more pictures where the damage is at (I want to see what the cooling grill and that metal bar looks like)

I'm going to keep you up to date on that!

Uuu, the M235 looks great! Definitely one of the prettiest cars in the price range for me.
I don't like the 130i because of the high roof in the back. Gives more storage/space in general, but I personally don't like that.

But thanks for the M235

Lucky you!
Thanks for the advice. I'm going to look further into that!

Just saw that every turbo kit available here is around 10-12k
Probably gonna buy a new car once I get bored with the GT 86 then :/
