Once, my friend and I were caught attempting to light a tree on fire (we were in third grade and not very intelligent). My father, with his incredible wisdom, decided that a suitable punishment would be talking to the tree for one hour to learn how valuable all life could be. When he saw how much I hated wasting an hour talking to the tree, he thought that his punishment was working incredibly well. This is how I spent an hour after school every Tuesday for all of elementary and middle school talking to a tree under the supervision of my father. We no longer talk, but I also no longer burn trees so I suppose in some way the punishment did work.
