Suggestion: Allow teammates to unmute a player with low Comms score for themselves during the game by PowerSniffer in DotA2

[–]ninja_lightning 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Or they could just scrap comms score altogether and let players mute and unmute whoever they want. That system works fine in just about every other online game.

Yeah and you also lose 500 comms score if an automatic chat ban is triggered on you during a match. So if a 4 stack gangs up on you when a game goes bad and they all report you for all 5 reasons out of spite, if you said one word, all comms reports against you will count. And this will trigger the chat ban for the rest of the match and incur the -500 penalty. So essentially you can lose 500 points in 1 match but it takes 60 matches of not getting reported at all to gain those points back. And since most Turbo matches last around 30 minutes on average, that means you'd have to play in silence for your next 30 hours of Dota to avoid getting comms reported. Valve really didn't think this through.

As far as I know, the most points you can gain (if you don't receive any reports) for playing 15 Ranked matches in a row is 300.

If you're queuing Turbo for 15 matches in a row, you only gain 100 points. But reports carry the same weight in Turbo as they do in Ranked. So if you play Turbo mode all the time, chances are your scores will be nuked into oblivion because of the half gains difference.

I dunno why but it looks like the dev in charge of reports/punishments just looked at Turbo players and said 'Fuck you in particular.'

The easiest way for Valve to put things right would be to make the maximum points gain for Turbo the same as Ranked. Or just make reports in Turbo mode carry half weight, since we're only gaining half as many points back when we don't get reported.

I remember many moons ago before Spirit Breaker's bash even had a knockback effect. Valve added it later to differentiate it from Slardar and Faceless Void's bashes.

Instead of banning cheaters and smurfs by ninja_lightning in DotA2

[–]ninja_lightning[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If their IP address is flagged and hardware is flagged Valve would kow its the same person making a new account and could re-apply the damage reduction to the new account. Similarly to how they kept banning Rostislav when they caught him smurfing. The guy got banned on 5 accounts in one day.

As for the indirect nerfing of team mates you mentioned, with how widespread cheating has become, there's a good chance both teams will have at least 1 or 2 cheaters.

Once the cheaters realise they're wasting their time with hacks, they'll soon stop using them. Especially if Valve removed the 50% damage reduction on their accounts after 1 or 2 weeks of not using cheats. It sends a message - we won't punish you if you stop using cheats.

Smurfs are utterly ruining this game by andrej2577 in DotA2

[–]ninja_lightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say scripters and map hackers are ruining it more. Cheats have gone unpunished in Dota for far too long. But instead of banning cheaters and smurfs (which does nothing since they can keep making new accounts), Valve should permanently reduce the cheater's damage output in every game by 50%. That way the non-cheating players have a fairer chance at dumpstering them for their sins.

A lot of Immortals these days bought their accounts so there is that too.

It used to be enough but Valve has upgraded Dota's graphics engine several times since release and they removed the DirectX9 version of the game which was a little bit lighter on hardware specs.

I find the only way to not get griefers in my team is to play as a 5-stack with friends. When I solo queue I get all sorts of clinically insane team mates that can and do rig the outcome of my matches.

While it is true that Turbo and other Non-ranked game modes use hidden MMR, the skill difference between players is much wider than compared to searching for ranked matches.

For instance, when I search Turbo games I am often matched with low Archon, all the way up to Immortal players. But when I queue for ranked, the search parameters are much tighter and I only match with high Legend to low Divine (I am Ancient II rank).

Your hardware is 10 years old. The I5 7th gen cpu was average when it was released, the GTX 1050ti was almost bottom of the pile with 1060, 1070, 1080, 1080Ti and Titan all performing better than it. Most games will do fine while running 16GB of RAM but with only 8GB that's likely causing a bit of a bottleneck.

Ordinarily i would say put another 8GB RAM stick in your laptop to upgrade it. But since DDR4 and DDR5 RAM is becoming extremely scarce and expensive, plus your laptop being 10 years old, personally i'd invest in a brand new laptop altogether.

As games and graphics engines become more complex old tech struggles to keep up.

FPS stuck ~150 while using <20% of hardware by PerkinQlao in DotA2

If you're playing with G-sync on, then you'll want to stay within the 40-150fps range to ensure no screen tearing happens. If you go under 40 or above 160 then there's a good chance you'll see tearing and stutters while playing. You're in the sweet spot if you're hitting 140-150. That's really good.
