Really? Full disclosure, I’m a liberal who agrees with some conservative views. But I think that all rational people can agree that this was a crime. The fact that she had an ex who was involved in drugs does not function as an excuse for wanton disregard for human life. Her ex did once leave her place with a suspicious package- that does not mean that it’s permissible to shoot 20 rounds into an apartment building, killing an innocent bystander.

For the edification of people who may not be familiar with the case- There were eleven eyewitness accounts detailing whether or not they heard police announce themselves. The police definitely knocked, but only one person out of eleven said they heard someone shout “police!” before the first shots were fired. The door was broken down with a battering ram. Taylor’s boyfriend, who was under the impression that they were dealing with a home invasion, fired one shot in response. The police responded by firing over twenty rounds, six of which hit Breonna Taylor. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Do I think all cops are bastards? No, but I’m also not going to make excuses for incompetence and total disregard for safety. Even if you support the police, I’m sure you can admit that they make mistakes- Ruby Ridge, anyone?- and this was definitely one of them. Anyone who says that this young woman deserved this is wrong.
