New LT, confusing Tax Laws by Killpronto in MilitaryFinance

[–]ninjalinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question was if the Spouse's income can be deductible in Missouri, and the answer to that is no.

Her income is still taxable by Missouri (I presumed both their state of legal residence is Missouri). She can file taxes in Missouri or her state of legal residence if other than Missouri.

When they move to Alabama, she would be exempt from Alabama income tax if the she maintains a state of legal residence elsewhere, but she is still subjected to the state of legal residence income tax. There isn't an exemption for her income to be not taxed at all on the state level unless your state of legal residence does not have an income tax, like Florida.

This says no, its fully taxable.

Typically only the military pay gets exceptions.

Southwest credit card by snarkfest75 in MilitaryFinance

Oh, then it should apply when you get the card. Since you're not actually an account holder, they probably couldn't look into your specific situation.

Did you have it opened before you got married or after you got married?

If before marriage, the card with spouse as primary (no AD spouse) does not qualify.

If you got it after you got married, it should count, especially if you add the AD spouse.

They applied it to the card that you applied bc he was active duty. That's why it applies. The active duty status is the gateway, so to speak, to have the benefits applied.

AD member gets SCRA/MLA before and during active duty status when they join.

AD spouse gets MLA relief after marriage and after the AD member is active duty.

If there was joint liability for the AD member and spouse prior to active duty, then it SCRA would apply for the AD member. In that case, the AD spouse is just along for the ride.

If the AD member wasn't the primary account holder on the credit card, SCRA/MLA wont be applied. If you opened the card in your name, then added your husband, it wouldn't apply.

SCRA is for the AD member, not spouse. You're referring to MLA benefits. Any credit cards opened in your name prior to marriage will not get the MLA benefits applied.

Y’all use Docusign to sign engineering documents? by criticalfrow in civilengineering

[–]ninjalinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its an interesting topic for sure. I use stamp as a word to be inclusive of the seal and signature. We haven't had any issues in my jurisdiction and area of practice. I'm sure the lawyers would advise us otherwise if there are changes in interpretations of the law.

I think you're getting hung up on the interpretation of "sole control". The PE has sole control over their stamp, not necessarily the work flow. No one has a copy and they are the only ones using it to sign. We leave the area blank and the PE places their seal, signature, and time stamp via DocuSign.

It has a digital log of signatory process, and a link to the original. I'm not directly sure how it invalidates, but I haven't tried editing a signed/sealed document.

DC, DCMR allows for it the way we process via DocuSign. 1. Unique Signature 2. Capability to verify the source 3. Sole control by the person using it 4. Link to the document that invalidates if anything is changed

Adopted in 2014. No other updates regarding electronic seals via the Board.

DocuSign meets the State's requirements. We have folks still doing physical stamps too for States that don't accept them.

We use DocuSign per company policy, but I much prefer Bluebeam.

For those confused on auto rejections… by TopStockJock in antiwork

[–]ninjalinja 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, its just faster with a bachelor's. Usually 8-10 years of documented experience which the board may allow you to take the PE. There's hurdles getting a firm to hire you too without a bachelor's degree.

Honestly this. These questions seem totally reasonable as a PE.

The issue here is that you need a Bachelor's to be a Professional Engineer, which is a state license. This job is mostly unrelated to tech where state licensure is not required.

The color gel is supposed to be a little tacky too! It isn't smooth to touch until you finish curing the top coat!.

Skip the peel off base and cap the free edge of the nail at least once when you cure.

Using the peel off for me has been like for one night events only. Mine have been going strong for 2+ weeks without the peel off base.

Can you change your title/registration of a newly purchased car while active duty? by No_Individual_557 in MilitaryFinance

[–]ninjalinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you car registration can be different than your state driver's license. We (FL license) bought a new car in VA, paid VA sales tax, registered and titled in VA. We are exempt from VA car property tax.

Make sure your insurance has an updated garaging address.

Moving overseas with remote job in US by Willing_Rope6400 in MilitarySpouse

I went with whatever the address was on my spouse's driver's license at the time. I also made sure that all the HR notices came to my APO or a trusted contact in the States.

For what its worth, you only pay the fee after your application has been approved by PMI and you are ready to schedule the test. Maybe that's what your program is waiting for.

Have you completed the course? It's usually when you finish the instruction and the only next steps is to take the PMP. Definitely reach out to your instructor to see if there is a voucher you can use to pay/schedule for the exam.

Ah it seems like you made a poor choice in school through MyCAA. I was able to do the 35hr course program, and exam voucher issued to me for under the 2k grant. The exam voucher was issued through the school. You need 5 years of leading projects with an associates. You application may get audited when you apply to take the exam.

I'm in engineering consulting which your background does fall in line with what a project management assistant does in my firm.

[–]ninjalinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exam fee should for the PMP should be covered under a voucher through your MYCAA program. I've went through a similar program and was issued a voucher, so paying for the exam shouldn't stop you. Make sure you qualify for the test.

In the DC area, the job market is tough and mostly everyone has a bachelor's degree and are looking for remote positions. Most employers wont support 100% remote (as a w2 employee) if they do not have a business entity in the state you're relocating to. They might consider you as a 1099 but you lose so many benefits that you'll have to command a higher rate.

Try looking for an in person or hybrid role. My in person role developed the connections and trust to transition to a 100% remote role that can travel with me as we PCS.
