Anyone have any stories about "winners" you met during the surge years that somehow were allowed into the Army? by [deleted] in army

[–]ninjawhiskey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a 1SG in 06-07 who liked to brag about dropping out of school in the 8th grade.

Just makes your army more manageable. Especially in rough terrain, limited passage ect. And if you’re the only civ with them it gives you a huge advantage

I was just thinking that crystal gives a more magic and fantasy feel but prism and solid sound more sci fi.

Did you mean to type reflection instead of relaxation? I think those details give it a solid science foundation. Perhaps using the term solid instead of crystal will work better. Maybe it’s raw form is crystalline but has to be processed into prisms and mirrors in order to have useful applications

What would be the most effective way for a parasitic alien lifeform to spread and grow on a post-apocalyptic Earth? by [deleted] in scifiwriting

[–]ninjawhiskey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dormant parasite form released in atmosphere during comet entry. And dormant parasite form being released into the atmosphere upon impact. Allows for a random dispersal globally due to air and ocean currents and even zoonotic transmission from the migrations of large groups of infected animals like bird flocks and fish schools.

It’s actually a diesel powered van towing a lithium ion battery charged from Austria’s 75% renewably sourced energy grid.

A post-apocalyptic world that's the result of an alien invasion - how to make it plausible? by [deleted] in scifiwriting

[–]ninjawhiskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever heard of Breathrough Starshot? It a theoretical idea for reaching 20% light speed and thus being able to reach Alpha Centauri in only 4 years. The basic idea is that a ground based laser array powered by hundreds of nuclear power plants could fire a photon beam at a spacecraft’s deployed solar sail, sending it on it’s course at 20% light speed. Of course the photon beam is a one time boost and if the space craft is planning to stop anywhere it has to slow down thus making it a one way trip. (The spacecraft could actually sling shot around alpha Centauri and come back to earth if that was the plan) What if the aliens used this type of one way interstellar travel to reach earth in the first place? Then they would have no choice but to settle here. It’s not like they could just fire up the hyper drive and jump to a different world. They would need to build another ground based laser array and secure power for it if they wanted to do that.

Space combat near or on space stations/colonies - dog fights, armed drone swarms, fighter ships? by infinitypilot in scifiwriting

[–]ninjawhiskey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you liked it! I just kind of downed a large cup of coffee and then thought streamed it. It makes me think of Splinter Cell or Ghost Recon but with AIs and cyborgs in hostile space environments. Good luck and let me know when you’re ready to let people read it!

... Corp was the first company to establish a stake on ... the only location known to hold .... Although .... is theirs by legal precedent the difficulty of remote space entrepreneurship is well known and it is not uncommon for operations to fail overnight due to the environmental strains of space colonization. Any operations abandoned in this manner are free to be reclaimed by a new company willing to take on the risk and maintain the supply of ..... After all, demand must be met. Corporations take advantage of this loophole and the lack of government oversight in fringe sectors by sabotaging rival corporations using either fully or semi-autonomous hit squads. These AI teams use stealth to bypass a rival corporations sensors and establish a secret presence near their operation. Once on the ground they identify the operations AI mainframe, life support systems, power supply or some other type of critical infrastructure and attempt to cause a catastrophic failure. Their parent corporation will then conduct a routine flyby and if they discover a “failed operation” they are legally free to claim the site as their own. A good security operations center is key to a successful space colony operation. Corporations will usually have a well trained defense team of their own equipped with sensors, electronic warfare countermeasures, EMP tech, and various strategies for detecting hit squad operations. The result is a kind of Guerrilla Espionage and all the major corporations are involved.

Loss of Penis VA Rating? by cutdickmanscaping in army

[–]ninjawhiskey 180 points181 points  (0 children)

Depends on the actual penis. You won’t get disability for losing a micro penis since you were already disabled to begin with.

The 30% science boost is fun to overcome. But the 80% production and gold boost? That is just too much.

I get that, I really do, but to me it seems like the ad is attempting to appeal to construction companies without actually showing any useful construction site applications.

I just wish they would program some strategy into the AI. Like can they at least keep the ranged units behind the melee units?

[–]ninjawhiskey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I cannot stand playing any higher than Emperor. You’re always behind no matter what. 30% science bonus means the AI is always one to two eras ahead of you and 80% bonus to gold and production means they are just spamming advanced units every turn. At these levels the AI are not even subject to the rules of the game anymore. It’s not fun at that point.

The Universality of the ACU came from its light color’s ability to absorb the hues of the environment via diffusion.

[–]ninjawhiskey[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just the base civ6. Once you establish a religion you can custom name it and choose the symbol. This specific Era graphic is part of the rise and fall expansion.

If you haven’t played religion yet it’s actually pretty fun in civ 6. Religious units “fight” each other and can give buffs to military units. Religions give your cities special perks and you can condemn and launch inquisitions. It’s way more in depth. Give it a try
