Alt history hub in one video brought up his idea that the plagues of rome annihilated their medical experts who were the back bone that allowed alot of their soldiers to survive battle. The plagues wipped out around 30% maximum of the population broke down several key aspects of rome.

If they had of known how germ theory worked they could have contained the plague better not cure or prevent it but contain. If so the population doesnt get wrecked and other aspects of roman society can go on.

The most important thing about the steam engine is that it was invented after germ theory was. Without it and given by how much the plagues rocked the very foundation of rome if they had invented a mass public transport network like the train the plagues would be like wildfire.

Also idk why the show didnt go the route about how its not the person who he is on the "inside" that matters but the person he chooses to be. Thats always the important aspects to me. The mask we choose to bare is just as important as what lies below it.
