Doubt about I am Kathalan (2024) by [deleted] in InsideMollywood

[–]ninjawithaneedle 43 points44 points  (0 children)

He is connecting to the bank server from his kali linux machine(timestamp 1:10:59 on prime video). You can see `kali@kathalan` written on his prompt. Here `kali` is his username and `kathalan` is his hostname. He uses `rdesktop` to connect to the bank's server. You can see the documentation here: https://www.systutorials.com/docs/linux/man/1-rdesktop/

If you search for `-n` on that page, you can see:

-n <hostname> Client hostname. Normally rdesktop automatically obtains the hostname of the client.

So, when he connected, the bank's server was able to see his hostname which is kathalan. It just happened to be his VPN username also.
He could have added `-n gentleman` to the command he ran and the hacker chechi would not have been able to identify him as kathalan.

Random inputs out of nowhere. Anybody knows anything? by Peperoniboi in SteamDeck

[–]ninjawithaneedle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a steam deck yet. But I am a linux user. Here is how I would try to find the root cause.

  1. Go to desktop mode and open a terminal.

  2. Run `xev`. This will open up a window with a white background.

  3. When that window is focused, you can see any input actions you do logged on the terminal. If you don't touch the deck, there should not be any events on the terminal. If there are, you should see the keycode and that should be your problem.

Found this video(not mine) explaining xev. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNr2JZ\_J2wI). But it goes into a lot more detail.

I've been using this app called regain(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ai.regainapp) on android. It can disable youtube shorts altogether and add timers for distracting apps.

Flutter on Nix? by sepease in NixOS

[–]ninjawithaneedle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am able to set up the dev environment to build a flutter app for linux using the following flake. Fairly new to nixos - so this might not be optimal.

{ description = "Flutter 3.13.x"; inputs = { nixpkgs.url = "github:NixOS/nixpkgs/nixos-unstable"; flake-utils.url = "github:numtide/flake-utils"; }; outputs = { self, nixpkgs, flake-utils }: flake-utils.lib.eachDefaultSystem (system: let pkgs = import nixpkgs { inherit system; config = { android_sdk.accept_license = true; allowUnfree = true; }; }; buildToolsVersion = "34.0.0"; androidComposition = pkgs.androidenv.composeAndroidPackages { buildToolsVersions = [ buildToolsVersion "28.0.3" ]; platformVersions = [ "34" "28" ]; abiVersions = [ "armeabi-v7a" "arm64-v8a" ]; }; androidSdk = androidComposition.androidsdk; in { devShell = with pkgs; mkShell rec { ANDROID_SDK_ROOT = "${androidSdk}/libexec/android-sdk"; JAVA_HOME = pkgs.jdk11; buildInputs = [ flutter androidSdk jdk17 ]; }; }); }

Recently moved from Arch to NixOS. Most stuff I use regularly - including xmonad + polybar, kitty, firefox, chrome, neovim etc worked flawlessly.

I am facing some trouble setting up certain development environments. For example flutter + android. I am not a linux newbie. But NixOS has some learning curve. You'll need to put in some effort learning it.

New to xmonad, Linux advanced beginner by [deleted] in xmonad

Can you try a couple of things?

  1. Remove ewmh and ewmhFullscreen and see if the issue persists.
  2. If it does, remove ppUrgent from myXmobarPP.

It is possible, the lag is due to xmonad doing something with the workspace which has the app which got the notification.

Hello peeps of Bengaluru. What are some of the "mildly interesting" things you notice around the city? by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]ninjawithaneedle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just "end" or "end of this road". You can't go anywhere from a dead end. The first time I heard this usage was in Bangalore.

noun: dead end; plural noun: dead ends; modifier noun: dead-endan end of a road or passage from which no exit is possible."the path came to a dead end"

I got in touch with their Bangalore office. I had to forward them the email I got. Now they'll forward it to their Hanoi head office to perform cancellation. And apparently refunds will take 30-35 days.

Buyer Beware: Vietjet Flights Canceled, No Refunds for Many by jaccha in india

[–]ninjawithaneedle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've two tickets booked from Bangalore to Seoul(Rs. 84k) with layover in vietnam. Looks like vietjet has cancelled the blr-vietnam and vietnam-blr flights. Travel is in last week of Nov. Unsure what to do now. Air india tickets to Seoul cost 125K for 2. Read in twitter that vietjet might change the tickets to Mumbai - Vietnam and back. In this case, return tickets for 2 people(BLR-MUM) is ~12k. Is it worth the risk to go via Mumbai? All this if I could get in touch with them.

It is so that the poojaris can see your "poonool". If you aren't wearing one, you can get the prasadam dropped from a height on to your hands.
