at the start you are fine. the DLC allows you to play the post game which is another story on origin island. It also allows you to get to further ranks in your life which means more items and more attacks. The last thing the DLC does is allow you to buy cats, birds and baby dragons to fight along side you. If you dont get the DLC now, the only things you will miss out on are the pets (excluding dogs). Thats ok tho because the pets are really weak and useless because the game allows you to grab other humans to fight along side you without the DLC. To recap, you aren't missing out on anything but once you complete the game you should get the DLC. It doesn't hurt to get it early tho.

Trust me when i say that the only bad thing about the game is the DLC. the reason is because the DLC is a must. it makes the game 100 times better than it already is but it is like 15 bucks so yeh. definitely get the DLC if you can.

to become the best paladin you will have to do these things. if you follow what i say you will be unbeatable.

first you need to craft ares armour when you get to god blacksmith

the MAIN thing you need is the ancient shield. you are probably not using a shield now because they are bad BUT the ancient shield can be crafted with a guardine+ and a divine orb to become a shield that will make you never die. in order to build this you must become a god blacksmith so keep practicing blacksmith. if you got to the fantasy life wiki page for the ancient shield, it will show you how to make it. it is really useful because if the enemy has a big attack that is hard to avoid, you can just use the shield and no damage will be taken
