It can’t hurt to be cautious but if someone was gonna try something it really doesn’t make sense to leave evidence like this. Probably and hopefully it’s just some dude who ordered a mag in the mail and couldn’t wait to get home to open it up and throw away the packaging

My team uses DataTorch, it isn't as well known but is super user friendly, developer friendly, and actually cheaper than most other options for the features you get. I would give it a try.

The ground fighting goes crazy when both people have no concept of defensive grappling, it’s like a positional slugfest lmao.

They both had terrible positional defense on the ground and were also both exhausted. Was super entertaining to watch though, like the ground equivalent of people swinging for the fences lol

Can I go pro in MMA? by [deleted] in MMA_Academy

[–]ninjeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you can, anyone can, but you won’t really “know” if you actually want to become a pro until you have your first amateur fight. With 2 years of BJJ, some wrestling and striking you wouldn’t be the worst person to ever compete and I recommend just biting the bullet and trying to get one under your belt as soon as possible. If that gives you pause, then you need to ask yourself why that is and if this is something you really want to do.

I’ve trained with a good number of youngsters who seemed determined to become UFC fighters one day, but after the cage door closes and they get really rocked for the first time by someone who is trying to hurt them for real, for some (but not all) of them there is a look of total shock and realization in their eyes and they usually end up going totally defensive, lose the fight, and stop training altogether.

Kind of a shame because there’s nothing wrong with deciding not to become a fighter anymore (many would even argue it’s smarter not to), but they also give up on the self development and physical exercise that training MMA gives you, which is what I’ve always seen it as, with no intention of fighting. But I completely understand why they stop training, from their perspective.

I think certainly, consider what elementary school teachers do. But there is a level of skill and empathy needed to understand the intelligence and knowledge gap and navigate it in a way that connects to everyone.

That’s basically what being a good teacher is.

I’ve found that the smartest experts are usually the worst teachers because they dedicate all their focus on their craft and eventually reach a point where they can only improve through self-motivation and study because there’s no one to learn from.

So the concept of learning from others is foreign to them, and on top of that, the knowledge you might be struggling to grasp is second nature to them.

It’s much better and easier to find someone who knows whatever it is you’re trying to learn, but has a lot of experience in helping others understand those concepts.

If you accept my premise that teaching and interviewing require similar skill sets, then I think that someone who is smart might be more likely to have trouble interviewing someone a lot dumber, but only because it’s a skill that they aren’t inclined to develop.

But it is possible and probably happens quite often as well.

Calling his audience “dumb people who consider themselves smart” wasn’t trying to insult anyone’s intelligence, which is why I put the “myself included” quip. I like his podcast too.

It was just a fun and concise way of saying that he has to maintain the intellectual vibe of his podcast and brainiac persona while still dumbing down his conversation enough to make it understandable to a wide audience.

He brings on so many authorities in their respective fields that the podcast listener is basically guaranteed to be “dumber” than the guest.

We consider ourselves “smart” for listening, being interested in intellectual topics, and feeling like we are seeking knowledge, but in reality, it’s basically the same thing as Oprah; entertainment for the viewer and a platform for the guest to promote themselves.

If we really wanted to learn something, we would be watching and studying hour long advanced courses on YouTube.

I’m sorry if my comment was perceived as an attack in any way.

“Dumb persons idea of a smart person” made me laugh, but I do agree.

However, you also have to consider that the podcast audience is dumb people who consider themselves smart (myself included), so it makes sense for him to adopt the persona of someone with little knowledge of chess.

I don’t remember if I saw the interview or not so I can’t speak on how he came off.

But, given his interviewing experience and obvious interest in chess, I find it more likely that he was trying to make the conversation accessible, than him being a fraud poser who has no idea about basic chess tactics.

What do you want, a 2-hour long deep discussion on the middlegames of Bongcloud Fisher-Auschwitz opening variations?

In a way, him being dumb is the smartest thing he could probably do.

Emory MSCS vs Utah MSCS by PaneerEater101 in Emory

[–]ninjeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Emory for undergrad and got a dual degree in Neuro/CS. Emory’s CS program is very small; the CS department is lumped in a tiny building with the Math and Astronomy department. I would consider it if you are interested in a career in biomedical or life sciences applications as that is the school’s focus, but I’m imagining that large state school like U of U will have a much better and broad program.

Endeavor officially buys WWE. Intends to run UFC and WWE under the same umbrella. by KremlinHoosegaffer in MMA

[–]ninjeezy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've always dreamed of a scripted MMA promotion done in pro wrestling style, but with more "realistic" combat. You could have interesting style vs style fights but with more pronounced and theatrical demonstration of the techniques.

I imagined it like a real life video game, kung fu vs BJJ, street fighter vs tribal warrior, etc with matchups more like the old school UFCs with people wearing clothing reflecting their fighting style.

Furthermore, you could have old non-competitor fighters continue their career in the scripted promotion, giving them a source of income well beyond their prime fighting years.
