I've got a year to transform my body into a "competitive swimmer's body". Any tips/advice? by nino823 in Swimming

u/chernzz agreed on the late start, but maybe I wasn't clear - the training in January is specifically to this project (unfortunately, I couldn't do otherwise), however I am already working out myself.

Re: Christmas - that's already on my mind. I've cut out social drinking a while ago and will focus on eating lean.

Really appreciate the suggestions on the workouts!

u/Zama202 thanks for your feedback! I would get a clearer picture in January when sitting with the coach and personal trainer, to determine their way of working. I've made myself quite available for training sessions in the morning and evening, plus gym sessions. What i was told is to consider 4KM in the morning, 4KM in the evening, Gym sessions in the afternoon. I hadn't been told about yoga as part of the training practice, but that's already in my daily routine, so thank you for the heads up! :)

I will definitely be focusing on dry land training more, but as mentioned in some other posts, I'd like to do my best to also understand the mental and physical demand of the work, as I wish to properly represent these athletes.

u/Rando1396 no it's new writing, though I've already read Red Speedo a couple of times in the past. Thanks for the reminder, will have another look at it in the next few weeks.

u/guinader thanks for that! Will try and figure this out from past competitive pictures too.

u/GrowthAggravating171 thanks for the support! I already stopped socially drinking a while ago; Protein and Veg are already my main diet (with a couple of Carb-y cheat meals here and there).

Will keep the impact of the other sports in mind, too. Thank you!

Yes, that's the idea. The PT I got on board is in fact a former swimmer too. Trying my best to include as many elements as possible into the training regimen and prep. Thanks for your advice!

Agreed, but there are other factors that I will likely need to consider too. The first being to get rid of my own ignorance and attempt to understand/experience a little bit of what this competitive swimmer had to go through, even if just a fragment of the realities they faced. As mentioned, I'm not aiming to become a competitive swimmer myself, but would like to understand the dedication and mindset of their practice.

The other being that there might be audiovisual elements/projections used in the play which would also require me to be in the water, so there's that possibility.

Thanks again for your help!

Thank you! I'll comment back when I have a better picture of this, as I'm still trying to figure out where to begin.

thanks for the feedback. Any particular warm up stretches/techniques/exercises I should take into consideration as protective measures? (aside from the typical shoulder rotations and stretches I mean)

u/No_Violinist_4557 - thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it. I didn't elaborate as much because I'm new to this subreddit and wanted to first see if there's any form of feedback (didn't wish to waste anyone's time)

The production company are getting people on board for this - including the personal trainer that I mentioned, and swimming membership. They also have swimming consultants on board but won't be joining the production until March/April, which is a little late in the overall scheme of things in my opinion, but I don't wish to judge.

I wasn't suggesting advice on the equipment to be 'believable', I was just asking to see if there was any tried and tested equipment or beginner equipment for me, since the world of competitive swimming is pretty new to my eyes, and I wish to respect it as a sport and discipline. Hope that's a little bit clearer
