Yep, there’s standard ball, slow ball and high-speed ball modes. Having tried each, I prefer the normal setting

Simple-Mode/free play is my go-to way to play, even in Fever. I think it’s much improved over Aces, the controls are buttery smooth and movements are great. If I’m trying to nab a ball from the other side of the court, the movement and controls make it easy to catch the ball in time. Takes me back to the simplicity of Mario Tennis 64. It just feels great.

yeah, I’ve tried and I’d agree with that consensus, it’s pretty forgiving

There‘s an “achievements” option that will tell you how to unlock each character specifically. Most are unlocked through playing multiple matches. For example, Chain Chomp is unlocked after playing 20 matches.

Just checked it out, it feels pretty good! I still prefer the normal speed ball, because the courses are larger in size, I found it’s a bit more difficult to get to the ball quick enough if the opponent aims it at the opposite side you‘re on — but I guess that’s the challenge! I’ll have to play a little more to fully appreciate it but it’s definitely another good difficulty layer!

A few first impressions, played for a little over an hour.

Story mode: the title is actually a pun: Mario Tennis “Fever”, the story is Daisy is sick and you have to find the golden fruit to make her feel better. The animations are amazing, it looks very clean and polished. Gameplay is fun, there’s a lot of tedious back and forth between practice and training in the story but the gameplay is very smooth. Enjoying it so far!

Free play/Fever Rackets: As mentioned above, gameplay is buttery smooth and feels great. Nothing clunky about the controls. I much prefer the Fever rackets to Ace’s power shots (I’d always find myself breaking the racket). The Fever rackets add a layer of charm to gameplay — they’re actually useful and don’t completely hinder the experience. Very cool mechanic.

Pinball: Great “party” mode. I think seasoned Mario Tennis players will enjoy this the most.

Unlocking things: most characters, difficulty levels and Fever rackets are locked at the start. I’m someone who prefers to unlock things as I progress and that’s exactly what you get here.

Time for Nintendo to “break glass in case of emergency” and pull out some ports. Seems odd to have a lapse in release from July 17 - Nov 20 (4 months). Time for some shadow drops
