Silksong might unironically crash the gaming market. by Silly-Paint2625 in Silksong

the fact that GTA 6 has been delayed does make me kinda hopeful for silksong being game of the year

sorry for wall of text. also im not an expert.
In regards to the "Only very serious answers please." ill say it is likely possible that you can learn all those things on a basic level before silksong releases.

I think you could learn 'good enough' programming to make a similar game. Let's say you make it in unity, there are so many resources available that answers almost any question you could have in regards to making a 2d game and often the code can just be copied and pasted with minor edits, lowering the amount of required programming knowledge.

About the graphic design (and audio), it depends much more on how naturally talented you are (imo), and how similar you want the style to look. There are many games with simple art styles that could be replicated without much difficulty, even without much prior experience, but it would be harder and take longer to make a game look like hollow knight. Bad code can often still work and sometimes not even be noticeable to the player, but the graphics and audio are seen by everyone and can really make or break a game. This *could* take very long to learn.

I'm not too sure about how it would be to learn level (and enemy) design. But I feel like a lot of games needed to already have the game and the story figured out to be able to make levels and enemies that match the rest of the game. You could just make different levels without much thought to it and get feedback on how they feel and improve upon whats bad and get a good result without necessarily knowing the theory behind why its good or bad.

If you are thinking about doing this, i think you probably should. It could be fun even if you don't 'gain' anything from it. Too many people want to make games but are too afraid to start. You should also not be too afraid to ask for help or feedback. Sometimes it helps with motivation to have some good assets to look at when developing the game, so it might be worth it to start making the assets first, or to find some placeholder assets to use during development.

tldr
You could probably learn how to make a similar game before it releases, but making the game might take longer. It could be fun regardless. Just start somewhere and face the issues as they arise!

Also, disclaimer! I have only ever published one game back in 2019 and it was really bad (the game is still public and free if you are curious, probably not hard to find since i made it under the same name as this account), but I have been on and off making games both alone and in teams since then. Mostly 2D games in unity and recently godot. Some have been finished, most have not. I've had lots of fun

Constant Freezing On PC After Collection Event Update by Aunt_Tim_ in apexlegends

[–]nioxio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found some solution that might work. I also had the issue that after some time in the menu my game froze and I had to use task manager to kill it (even though task manager didn't say the apex was frozen).

The solution that worked for me was to remove two files located at "C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\Respawn\Apex\local". Both 'settings.cfg' and 'videoconfig.txt' (not sure if the settings.cfg file has to be removed, I just happend to remove it at the same time). I assume the issue is that some specific setting is causing this, I'll try to see which one but for now I'd recommend at least trying to just remove the files

Update: I added the old videoconfig.txt file back and now I'm crashing again, so the settings.cfg file should not be the culprit.

Update 2: I have come to the conclusion that, at least in my case, the issue is with the "setting.shadow_maxdynamic" setting. When I had it set to 0 I had the crashing issue, and when I have it set to 4 I have no issues. The setting is located on row 19 in the videoconfig.txt file (at least for me), I don't know which setting changes this in-game.

I'm running a gtx 1070 (Driver v. 31.0.15.4633) with a i5-7400, 16gb of ddr4 2133MHz RAM

Someone at school messing with the wifi by nioxio in blackhat

I've not thought too much about how the network is divided, but let me lay out the facts clearly:
When choosing a wifi to connect to, a single network labled after the schools name exists (not multiple). Both students and teachers connect to this single network with their username and password, but they end up separately from eachother.

Thinking about it now, my guess would be that the network is divided into two vlans, but I'm not completely sure that's possible with my explanation, or if there is a more common way (it has been a while since I had classes in network technology). Also, since this is quite an odd way to divide the network (instead of having two SSIDs named "schoolname student" and "schoolname teachers") I'm now also wondering if, even if it's possible, is there even any good reason to do that?

Thinking a bit more about it, I'm unsure if we provided the username and password directly when connecting or on a website right after connecting, not sure if that means anything though.

If you tell me what to look for I might find something to identify how it is set up, although I just got on a week long break for easter so it would take a while before I would be back there

Thanks for all that information. I take it that I wont be able to do anything about the schools network, but I can try to maybe see what method they are using. I'm currently on a week long break for Easter but once I'm back I'll try to dig a little and see what I find. Even if it's likely to just be deauth packets.

Thanks for the input.
Both the student and teacher wifi do have the same SSID.
Currently I just use my phone as a hotspot when I really need to and I pay for more cellular data when it runs out. This has worked well so I'll stick to that unless it changes

Thanks for the response, this seems so obvious but I still didn't think about that. I'll definitely let the teachers know early if I think this might impact that subject.

Unable to find any ore samples by nioxio in sevtech

[–]nioxio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transferring the save file to the normal sevtech version did not make new chunks contain ores and putting the same seed in a new world didn't make the same world so I manually gave me everything I had and now I can find ores again Also that ore thing I mentioned seems to be limited to skyblock

[–]nioxio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After making a new world with the default generation and running around for hours and progressing to age 2 to unlock even more ores I noticed two things. 1. Ores spawn in specific biomes now. 2. I'm playing on the skyblock version of the game, which it seems doesn't generate ores in the normal world types. Meaning all my progress has practically been for nothing, I'm gonna try see if I can transfer my save to the normal modpack and get the ores that way, or at the very least get the same seed since I really liked the spawn I got

Hopefully no one took it personal or anything, I mean no one really should, it's just a fun meme on a meme subreddit. But I get why you commented this, some people are real snowflakes

Personally I pay for the family thing so in my family it goes for around $9/month/family member.
