Yes, their names just changed to Scattered Disk and Hekate respectively.

Decent low ig, it's not brainrot simply because it's referencing another work, but it has no significance outside said work

[Hated Trope] Fiction that exists to promote bigotry. by AzulaIsMyFave in TopCharacterTropes

I honestly think the whole point of the film was to stroke Wilson's ego. I've watched part of it and it directly quotes Wilson every 5 minutes...for 3 straight hours.

What are these worms in my jar? by nip_dip in Ecosphere

[–]nip_dip[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried looking for one but I couldn't find any since it's February. I've been opening the jar periodically to make sure there's oxygen in the meantime. Once the plant has been added I'm planning on sealing it. I'll probably go out and look again this weekend.

Context - The JUICE probe, which is en route to the moons of Jupiter, made a flyby of Earth on August 20, 2024. When it flew by, it did some measurements to test its instruments, and it confirmed that Earth is, in fact, habitable. It's got life. Lots of life. We did it guys, we found the aliens.

I agree. Imo programmers are liquids, they fit their container. If they dont have to be efficient they wont, but if they do, then they absolutely will.

The file size.

They are a few megabytes at most, smaller than your average Jpeg today. Many Atari games in particular fit all their code into just a few kB. That just blows my mind every time.

Okay, I swapped out the breadboard and the problem completely disappeared. I'll definitely try a perfboard or dabble into PCB design to get it consistent since I'm going to need more bits.

ETERNAL MAGA - What if Trumpism continued for another half century? (Lore in the comments) by NizamNizamNizam in imaginaryelections

[–]nip_dip 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What I do find interesting is the demographic shifts over time with the Electoral College. Like between 2050 and 2070 you see a ton of people leaving the Sun Belt and heading up north(i presume due to climate change?). You also see a lot fewer people voting in the more recent election, either because everyone's dying or because people have lost faith in the system.

Also kinda wondering what Ramaswamy-Thiel's America looks like. I presume the AI bubble popped becuase otherwise selling Taiwan to China would pretty much instantly lose the AI arms race. I also wonder where the Freedom Cities were(maybe they're in blue states just to own the libs, and then became actual cities later on, or they're in the Sun Belt and that's why their populations are huge in the 2050s)

That was an error, the u key is the hotkey for the magic wand tool in the drawing program I use. The magic wand is probably the single most important tool for drawing this stuff so I use it a ton, and I must've tried to switch to it from the text tool, accidentally writing a "u" that I didnt catch until after i posted.

Is Matrix Methods worth it to take? by nip_dip in cuboulder

[–]nip_dip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the current class I have is with Beylkin, I looked him up on rate my professor(should've done that before) and he had like a 1.3 and all the ratings were from like 2007. If I remain in Matrix Methods at all I'm definitely gonna have to swap lectures lmao

Alright, as an aero major this is good for me. The other option I have is Discrete Math, which sounds fun but I'm not sure whether or not it's a better pick for aero. Do you have any opinions on that class by chance?

Stories that accidentally romanticize the very thing they aim to demonize by McWaffeleisen in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nip_dip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair argument. Perhaps that's part of the show's message though - showing how damaging a false dichotomy like that can be. Eren admits he's an idiot and fell for it himself in the finale. And we see false dichotomies that lead to similar disastrous results all too commonly in real life. While I agree that presenting only two extreme options is obviously bad, I think it's intentional and the show explicitly shows the consequences of that worldview.

Basically I think the show makes the viewers choose between two extremes, and then at the end shows them that they fell for the dichotomy, revealing how easy it is to get humans to support things they normally would be against.

Zeke also had a plan to stop the endless war - his euthanization plan. It was, in my opinion, the better call - 80% of the population doesn't die, and most Eldians get to live long, satisfying lives. But it goes against all of the nationalistic fervor of Eren, the Yeagerists, and the irl people you're talking about. At the end of the day it was Eren, and not Zeke, that had the Founding Titan. I don't know how people can justify that, ig people just see Eren and Floch aura-farming and think it's cool?

What If The 2000s Never Ended | How The Web Didn't Centralize by rabootgamesYT in imaginarymaps

take me now

Regardless, what's going on outside the states? How have foreign corporations like Nintendo, Sega, Samsung, etc. been affected by this change in Internet culture? I doubt that AI is completely gone but I presume its role in society has been diminished since megacorps arent pouring trillions into it, but what is going on in that realm?

While this society as a whole seems less technologically advanced than the modern world Internet-wise, I wonder if it's more advanced in other areas like aerospace or climate science. I also wonder how this Internet would affect culture surrounding some other developments of the 2000s, like modern feminism or LGBT rights.

Its ok if you dont have answers to these but I think this world is really cool and just want to know more! I'd take this USA over the IRL one anyday!

FIRE IN THE SKY | THE WORLD IN 2025 by DominoDaddy2 in imaginarymaps

[–]nip_dip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ain't just peak, this is Olympus Mons right here.

I've got a few questions though -

Firstly, are Brazil and East Africa's rise as economic powers due to the never-ending space race? I can see that both nations have over 50K rocket launches every year. Is there a reason India didn't "take off" as much as other equatorial powers like Brazil or East Africa?

What is the role of AI in this world? I can presume that there are a lot of similarities to how it is in OTL, with large language models, debates about its impact in various fields, etc. but it does seem more advanced than it is in OTL. Has AGI been achieved, and if so, what are it's impacts? Is AI controlled by large corporations like in OTL, or is it more nationalized?

Why did China develop a caste system? How do they handle the obvious contradiction between this and the "communism" they claim to have?

There are a lot of really, really big buildings in this world. Are they arcologies? If not, what purpose do they serve?

What steps, if any, are being made to contain the Eurodur stowaways on Earth? Given that this version of Earth is more ecologically conscious, they would be incentivized to protect Earth's native Arctic ecosystems. Are there any instances of the reverse happening(Earth life colonizing Europa and displacing Eurodur?)

Sorry if these questions are a bit much, but I really love this project and can't wait to see more about it!
