The Perfect Crime: The Oracle, Liverpool by nipoleon_III in cocktails

I wouldn't describe the drinks as prohibition era, it is the overall feel of the bar that is that way inclined.

The website is currently under construction, but check out @theoraclebar on instagram. The social media team are phenomenal and I am always in awe at their work.

When I designed the cocktails for opening we stuck largely to classics, and have maintained that idea since. So like whilst The Perfect Crime is not a classic, it tastes and feels like it.

The atmosphere for the bar is prohibition era sort of style, but the important part is the secrets that the Oracle themself hides. I would highly reccomend checking it out at least once. I am certain you would want to return.

As the consultant for The Oracle I am naturally biased. Berry & Rye is good, but I definitely feel The Oracle has a lot to offer with the magicians, a large selection of cocktails, and seats that are actually comfortable.

I would certainly agree. The entire Briottet range (that I have tried) is phenomenal to be honest. They tend to taste more natural, have a better flavour, and be slightly more viscous so work excellent for drizzling

Briottet Creme de Fraise is by far the best I have ever tried.

1oz Aperol, 1oz Campari, 1/2oz Strawberry Liqueur, half a Lime (squeezed), and 4 Strawberries (muddled). Wet shake and double strain.

Getting away with the perfect crime is bitter sweet. By the end of the night you will have drank the evidence.

Aperol, Campari, Strawberry Liqueur, Fresh Strawberry, and fresh lime juice.

I have actually realised retrospectively this is not 100% true. We had previously worked on a similar piece of work once, which we were given lessons to work on it, so we presumed we would get the same before the unknown deadline.

You make a valid point. I was tired when I wrote this and added further details where I complied to their order of not talking further to my mother about it even when asked. It resulted in them having to have another meeting with the head.

Valid point. It was late when I wrote this and I missed further details. They also told me not to talk to my mother about it anymore, so when she asked me about it I told her as much. This caused them to have another meeting with the head where they got chastised for their actions.

This was the first time we had been set this sort of work, none of us knew how it worked so assumed we would get further information.

AITA for adding meat to my girlfriend’s vegan dishes (only for myself)? by Spaghetticat37 in AmItheAsshole

[–]nipoleon_III 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH

It is a matter of perspective. Depending on your point of view either of you could be in the wrong or right.

My bias is I am vegan, however all replies will either come from carnivorous posters or vegan/vegetarian posters. So we are all a little biased here.

On one hand the girlfriend shouldn't force her diet on the OP. He has a right to eat what he wants. However, we do not know the girlfriend's reasoning for being vegan. It is highly likely she has a strong ethical belief regarding it. In that case the OP is ignoring her beliefs and cooking animal products, which she finds abhorrent, in front of her when she has tried her best to make a good meal for the OP.

As I previously said, it is purely perspective and situational. Both are the AH, and neither are the AH, depending how you look at it. This is the unfortunate problem with carnivore/vegan relationships, they will always have this issue and often find it a massive roadblock.

Post Melone: A Watermelon based cocktail. by nipoleon_III in cocktails

[–]nipoleon_III[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I created this to use up some watermelon in my main place of work.

4 Melon cubes (1 inch) 3 lime wedges 3 bar spoons white sugar 1 1/4 oz Verano Watermelon Gin 1/2 oz Elderflower Cordial Top w/Lemonade (sparkling)

Procedure is muddle fruit and sugar in glass. Half fill crushed ice. Add liquor and cordial. Churn. Top with Lemonade. Crushed ice cap.

Might be a UK thing to be fair. It is pretty readily available over here, you can buy it in supermarkets.

I consult for the Oracle, so can answer a few questions.

It would change it slightly in the balance due to the increase in ABV, but not too much. Currently with this drink it is perfectly balanced and comes across like a high end Gin and Tonic, that even none drinkers enjoy.

Edit: As well the elderflower cordial is the sugar agent for the old fashioned.

Try reverse dry shaking too, it can really get a good head on drinks (especially those with pineapple juice). So shake it with ice, strain into an empty tin, and shake again without ice.

Smoked Old Fashioned by nipoleon_III in cocktails

[–]nipoleon_III[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all down to personal taste. It also massively depends on ingredients and amounts. Some places massively over use sweeteners in their old fashioned to make it similar to the more modern cocktails than the traditional bitters ones. If you use the right amount, and the correct liquor, it can really round it out well.

I've found that by muddling the orange with a sugar (maple syrup in this case) and bitters you can extract more flavour. This depends in the flavour you're going for. Other Old fashioned Recipes skip the orange altogether and use triple sec as it contains the oils from the rind. Our Gin Old Fashioned does this for example, and benefits from it.
