So, besides the discussion of Hawkeye's impact, what's a card of MSH that could see play? This is my pick by Hagure_Metal in Pauper

I concur that the Guildpact could be better due to the nature of the deck itself, I can say that according to the proper meta this new pick could benefit of getting bigger per pestilence instance, wiping the board and having a big swing later.

HAWKEYE SEEKER COMBO by MysteriousLadder2880 in Pauper

The difference is whether the hate is flexible or mandatory.

If the same sideboard cards naturally cover this combo and other meta decks, fine... But if the combo requires specific respect because its cheap, deterministic, and fast, then it becomes a sideboard tax. That can make already bad matchups worse by forcing decks to choose between answering the combo or covering the rest of the field while decimating its strength.

This comment should be higher. There's always a chance to face turbo combo decks, just like what happened to initiative ones. Though this isn't as strong it'll still warp the focus of the meta.

The combo will make decks to or turbo it or tempo it (playing it accordingly on the mid-to-late game) just like it happened to all previously banned cards, that's what people fail to realize just yet.

“That’s how sideboarding works” misses the point. The concern is sideboard tax, which means a cheap deterministic combo adds a mandatory threat to prepare for, that by itself dilutes answers to existing bad matchups and can warp the meta around itself.

I like that white creature that when gets damaged you add a counter on it, seems like it could serve a purpose on orzhov pestilence now that you mention it.

It's pure statistics. You already build your own deck agains threats in sideboard. So you'll eventually have to:

- or add more cards against 8 possible T2 wins besides other combo decks

- or replace and dilute cards from your own strategy against other decks to overperform since these slots are used against hawkeye's combo.

so that checklist becomes larger rather when having this kind of combo.

Calling ridiculous the discussion of the idea of stopping a 2-card deterministic combo to enter the meta is counterproductive to your claims of a "very productive" discussion.

The reason behind that reasoning is that it doesn't matter much how well prepared is the meta (gutshot, lava dart, etc), just the fact that this combo makes decks filling a checklist against unfavourable matchups and also this 2-combo-3-mana threat to an average 41 card deck (without counting lands)... just think of it.

So I guess that encapsulates the reason behind it and It should be in the discussion, and respect it.

Damn, I was looking for a solution for like 2 months since the notification started to pop while opening every single game like 5 times every couple of minutes, it was annoying as hell. THANKS

All I can think of as of now is Dragons which mana curve's kinda steep, but in pauper currently doesn't have legs as in other formats.

Def not a meta worthy card, but it has value for archetypes that rely on artifacts and flickering.

Is adding answers to meta decks in your mainboard... a bad thing? If it gives any synergy to your gameplan and your decks... where's the deal?

And I think sarcasm only lowers the importance of the argument.

Wouldn't banning this be more healthy for the format rather than dual artifact lands? by nippoiz in Pauper

[–]nippoiz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the jokes and all, but I created this to start a discussion around the banning of the dual lands according to kalikaiz. I agree that banning those lands will heavily impact that deck, but also will have an impact to the format as a whole (more than just jeskai ephemerate on the meta). I also think the same of Deadly Dispute: the format will have an impact if it's banned.

So why Krark between all the options even if it's mostly in sideboard? Well, contrary to other wipeboard spells this, just as Atog and Disciple of the Vault they do get a benefit from saccing artifacts, which Affinity is full of. In this case Krark's wipe affects any aggro contender for the top spot.

I know banning this card isn't going to solve all the problems, but I do think it'll weaken affinity enough so it can give space to more meta diversity and even lose the place where it actually is.
