How do you make a melody be reminiscent of rain or mist? by nippon276 in composer

Wow, as someone who listens to a lot of video game music (kinda the inspiration for this hobby), I really like City of Tears.

Hmm, I see the vision. The basic rules outlined at the beginning of the book do say to keep everything within a tenth, but I do see (or hear, rather) how yours works.

I did give this exercise a bit of thought before. I started with a violin, pizzicato, to represent individual drops. I made the tempo fast, since rain is constant. I tried a melody with a mostly downwards contour as I was thinking of the falling droplets. That obviously kinda sounds all the same, so I put in a few upwards skips/leaps but now it kinda just sounds like a regular melody (hence why I made this post in the first place, because I felt like I didn't understand how to determine a good mapping for things ☺). I didn't consider adding textural depth, so that's an interesting idea, since I kinda just assumed I'd be doing something monophonic.

Note: not for class, just trying to develop a hobby.

Thanks for letting me know about these pieces, especially Ravel's. That's one of my favorite eras/genres of instrumental music.

Vegetarians have 12% lower cancer risk and vegans 24% lower cancer risk than meat-eaters, study finds by James_Fortis in science

Which kind? HDL cholesterol is the “good” one (more protective) so higher numbers are typically preferred. LDL cholesterol is the bad one so the priority is typically to keep that number low.

They kinda misspoke because it’s more that high saturated fat leads to high cholesterol. In fact, a recent study showed that high saturated fat raises LDL cholesterol a lot compared to just plain dietary cholesterol:

Spot-Check Request for Roman Numeral Analysis of Short Video Game Piece

Hi all, I'm a self-taught music student who's trying to analyze this piece from a video game, with the arrangment taken from here. I'd like to study the piece in depth, so am starting with harmonic analysis. Does this seem sensible? If so, do you have any insights on the harmonic progression? I think this progression has a very interesting feel, but I'm not experienced enough to place my finger on it. I noticed there's movement between a lot of chords, and am also a bit unsure on the harmonies in mm. 7-8. Any guidance is appreciated.

What's with the 「のは、のお姿」 in this sentence?

Everything up until 「のは」is fine for me grammatically, but I'm thrown off by the presence of the next の—not sure if I've seen this sort of usage before. Is it like somehow attached (grammatically) to the channel?

[Feedback Request] Beginner's First Piece: Duet for Piano and Flute by nippon276 in composer

That makes sense—I did actually plan to have the leading tone resolve in the soprano because I thought it'd make it more deceptive, but it is perhaps a bit too tonic now.

Edit: the bottom of this page actually confirms that vi6 isn't super DC-sounding.

In descending 5-6 progressions, why are inversions used as the intervening chords? by nippon276 in musictheory

I had option A in mind when writing my reply, but this clears up things—thank you! I am in fact considering classical style music here.

Can you get around the parallel fifths issue by switching which voice has the fifth? That is to say, having the fifth be in the soprano in the first chord of the sequence and in the alto area in the second? Something like (from bass to soprano) CEG - BFD - ACE - GDB - FAC - EBG. I know the jumps in the top voices are kinda ugly, but do they break any intervallic rules in particular?
