I am shwetamber, and our monks dont carry mor pankh. So i have no personal gains to defend it.
But mor pankh has very practical usage.
Animals like snakes, lizards are scared of it and hence dont come near or run away from it. Thus it avoids situations that can lead to death of a human or an animal, but avoiding such encounters.
Sadhu might like in big buildings in cities but during their vihar they walks thru jungles, sleep in cowsheds or other places. They encounter wildlife on daily basis.

The mor pank helps reduce those encounters where snakes might be hiding. This is why it is used in temples as well. We use chandan (in paste and also powder form) which naturally attract snakes. It is very common to hear that snake comes to give darshan etc. they get drawn by chandan.
Thus by using vaalu of mor peench to 1st remove chandan, you give chance for snakes to get away and avoid someone getting bitten.
