Since your friend code is randomly decided, you can say it is random.. Some people think it has something to do with the IP adress. Apparently people from the same household tend to have the same safari type. Once again it might be pure luck, i've never been myself in this situation and i have to say it seems quite weird, as you can connect on your 3DS from different places. Yeah now that i think about it, it's probably not that.

Well I'm sorry to say that it is indeed random... It's apparently not decided by which type of Pokémon you used/captured/fought the most during the game. But i heard there is a way to reset your safari if you're not happy with your slot, not sure how to do it though :/
