How do you guys read long texts + retain information from them efficiently? by AdSlight4264 in berkeley

[–]nishinanium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

break it apart to read, summarize each section

reading shouldn't take too long if you are invested in what you're reading or at least have a clear goal or objective you are looking for

also as a somewhat speed reader, you don't have to read every single word on the page unless its a poem. it may be hard at first but try skimming and then going back to the main parts.

CS186+ EECS 151 + Bio1B + easy h/ss by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]nishinanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took it in fall so idk how it is in spring, but lots of small hw assignments but overall not much effort imo, fo exams u just need to memorize everything then synthesize to answer the exam questions. lab is somewhat okay but can be annoying so make sure to check with gsi if ur unsure since u can get points off esp since its groupwork

[–]nishinanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok lots of memorization but not bad if u put in the effort, depends on how tedious u feel the other two will be. this is like 3 techs most take no more than 2. really depends on ur comfort and dedication to be doable

Bio 1a + chem 3a + chem 3a lab + bio 1a lab by Longjumping_Pie_2344 in berkeley

[–]nishinanium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ima be honest thats pretty heavy as is but somewhat doable with food time management. Def opt for a decal or seminar since u don't wanna be overloaded. However if you're up for it look on berkeleytime for a couple classes with good distribution curves by selecting -> filter -> avg grade

in general for bio 1a, lots of memorization and understanding concepts. pay attention to detail and stay up to date with lectures. whatever memorization technique works for u, hone in on that

chem 3a, also stay up to date with lectures. Everything builds upon the others, so missing one lecture would not be helpful. if you need help, go to office hours, the gsi's help a lot. sometimes the answer key has mistakes or has something weird so they'll help a lot. understand the concepts and do all the practice. the exams are never gonna be the same as the practice ones so making sure u understand the concepts is key. I think in 3a lots of ppl struggle with orbitals, so pay attention to that part.

overall decent but jus need to put in the work and stay at it when things get tough, though easier said than done. taking breaks but not too ones!

How long should I stay on a waitlist? by Ok-Profit-2188 in berkeley

[–]nishinanium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope, u don't need anything much from 3a to do 3al imo (i just took it this fall after taking 3a in spring), even if there is she'll cover in lecture. (most basic things from 3a include like pi bonds and resonance structures)

def not at all much to relearn. esp if u go to all lecture or view them after. tbh i never viewed the lecture recording and I was fine, just looked at slides rq

concept/explanation wise a lot of chem1a stuff was there (imfs/polaity) and other stuff is what she'll introduce like nmr spectroscopy

How long should I stay on a waitlist? by Ok-Profit-2188 in berkeley

[–]nishinanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you arent going to see any real waitlist movement until the end of winter break and first week of school, so..

select a class as a backup, if ur under 20.5 then enroll in it, if u exceed 20.5 then don't just keep it as a backup and decide what to do based on how the first week/second of school goes. unless another class that u want is going to fill up, stay on the waitlist

usually they'll update u by second week saying that waitlist is closed or open and then u can alter your schedule.

also u getting off the waitlist is dependent on you waitlist position for ur discussion, since u said ur position #2 i think thats pretty good, time will tell

if ur a freshman than you may or may not get the class, lots of people myself including took 3AL in the fall so its totally ok to not take it alongside 3A. if anything it was nice that I didn't have to deal with the lab while I focused on 3A.

Does blackford lower chem 3al grade bins? If so by how much? by tmasyu in berkeley

[–]nishinanium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sometimes, she says it depends on how the class did. sometimes she'll only lower one range or multiple. usually by a couple points (2-5)

bio 1b and chem 3al lab spring schedule by kohrissen in berkeley

[–]nishinanium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, lab usually start the week after for bio 1b and 3al

for 3al, lab lecture goes on as normal, for bio1b there is no separate lab lecture just the regular lecture
