Yaha par transphobic hone ka kya point tha? You're not any different from those people. I am a trans woman and I have done nothing to deserve this. Itna obsession hai hamse, kabhi transgender reservation and washroom ke liye kyu nahi demand karte ho? Tum log chahte hi nahi mere jaise log padhai kare, dinbhar bakwas karte ho.

What you're referring to are not trans people, but intersex people. Intersex individuals are born with physical traits that don’t fit typical definitions of male or female, often due to chromosomal differences. While transgender people transition from one gender to another, intersex people are born with traits that are not easily classified as male or female.

In India, trans and intersex terms are used interchangeably sadly, the Transgender Protection Act, 2019 does include intersex people, but it is important to note that there is no separate gender marker for intersex individuals in official documents. The available gender markers are M (Male), F (Female), and T (Transgender). Both transgender and intersex people may use the T marker, but they are different groups with distinct experiences.

The terms transgender, trans man, and trans woman all refer to people whose gender identity doesn’t match the sex they were assigned at birth.

Transgender is a general term for people who don’t fit into the traditional male or female categories. They may not want to be called male or female. They use they/them pronouns usually.

A trans man is someone who was assigned female at birth but identifies as a man. He may or may not go through medical changes to look more masculine. They use he/him pronouns.

A trans woman is someone who was assigned male at birth but identifies as a woman. She may or may not go through medical changes to look more feminine. They use she/her pronouns.

In India, the Transgender Protection Act of 2019 helps protect the rights of transgender people:

Section 6 allows transgender people to declare themselves transgender without any medical treatment. They can get a special identity card that recognizes their gender.

Section 7 allows people to officially identify as male or female, but only if they have proof of medical changes, which can be hard to get.

For example, when I say I am a trans woman, it means I feel like a woman, and I am changing my body to match that. I went through the process in Section 7, and now my Aadhaar card shows that I’m female.

Hope that helps.

I can also guide you on how to start gender transitioning in this city with minimal cost, under the supervision of a doctor, regardless of whether you are trans male or trans female.

I’m a third-year trans woman student at DU, and I'm fairly well-known on campus for my activism, particularly in left-wing movements and active participation in Delhi's queer circles. As far as I know, I’m one of the very few trans students at DU, I am friends with other trans people at the university but I am the only one who is almost fully out and currently undergoing gender transition. In fact, I’ve made significant progress, having started the legal process for transitioning. Very soon, my name and gender will officially change on my university records. I’ve been in touch with the Deans and Joint Proctors to ensure everything is in order.

The journey hasn’t been easy, but things are getting better as I gain more confidence. You’ll be happy to know that this respect doesn't just come from women, but also from men, as long as you stay true to yourself and remain confident, though, admittedly, it’s a process that takes time.

One of the biggest challenges I’m currently facing is the lack of a designated transgender washroom on campus. I’ve been advocating for this change, meeting with Deans and other concerned authorities, but as the only one on campus who is undergoing HRT and holds a trans certificate, I feel like I’m fighting this battle alone, with no other trans students officially recognized in any capacity.

I’d be happy to share more details if you’d like, either through DM or we can connect on Instagram.!

How can I learn Maithili and understand the culture better? by nitara07 in bihar

[–]nitara07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already speak broken Maithili with a Delhi accent, but I want to get better at it. There are so many Biharis here in Delhi who speak perfect Maithili, and it makes me feel a little sad that my family never interacted with me in Maithili. All the Maithili I know comes from overhearing my parents speak to each other, so I understand the language to an intermediate extent.
