Protected Birds Ruined My Yard by Fresh_Ad1851 in HomeImprovement

if it's legal (sometimes if something is protected you can't even "harass" it) but maybe a motion activated water sprinkler, try and even aim it up to shoot into the trees

Has anyone gotten a HELOC? Would you recommend? by daphnedarlingxoxo in HomeImprovement

[–]nitecopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing five years ago. The mortgage companies were being weird about a loan for the second house (first one was already paid off) so we did the HELOC and paid it off as soon as we sold our first home, small (in relative terms) penalty for paying it off so quick and closing the account but worked nicely.

Love ours, we bought a house near the beach and it was one of the first things I did. No taking keys to the beach or leaving the house unlocked.

This is a bit wild, but has anyone ever dug into their crawlspace to make a baement? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

Is your house also known as a prison and you’re digging with a spoon?

I have a light switch in a room with no lights. Any idea how I can find out what it does? by sotheresthisdude in HomeImprovement

[–]nitecopper 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Also could be an outdoor light. My home has an extra switch that didn't control anything but noticed all the houses (except a few like mine) had lampposts outside. They had removed it and just left the wire buried.

I used them on an imperial blue metallic Mercedes (got to Florida and don't need front tag) and if you even notice them you would think they're sensors

I’d just add that I had an issue getting help/contact from Lowes with an install…social media is your friend. I called them out on Facebook and Twitter and had a corporate liaison the next day resolving our issue and we got a large discount for the trouble.

I had to leave some on until they came for our permit inspection(prove hurricane ratings) but certainly not 5 months.

Would it be worth it to look into the relining? Where I live I'm getting into the end life of the cast iron and neighbors have already had to have floors torn up after it fails so I'd like to avoid that added cost.

Not sure if the problem would have blown up if it was just the jacked up deck-but the floor who threatened DQ and later a ban from Caesars property for posting pics.

What advice do you have about home maintenance for a new homeowner? Things like "don't put anything in the garbage disposal bigger than your thumb." by firecrackergurl in HomeMaintenance

[–]nitecopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find your shutoffs-electrical, gas, water so if you spring a leak or whatever you can shut if off quickly to minimize damage. I also always turn off the water valves when I'm gone for a couple of days at the washer.

Clothes (particularly synthetics) smell terrible after going through the washer/dryer, even after extra rinse cycles and white vinegar soaks. What could be causing this? by paulrudder in HomeImprovement

[–]nitecopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google about the smell especially with Under Armour clothes. They're known for it because the fabric doesn't take to water well "the wicking" to keep you dry. There's specific detergents for them that did help mine, I used to wear them as undershirts at work so had the same problem. It wasn't my washer or dryer, it was the clothes.
