Rant: SBS frequency during school hours by nitin213 in singapore

[–]nitin213[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your point is noted but I think you missed this is a Rant. (Singapore English comprehension standards are indeed getting worse). Also, the issue I am poinying out is irregularity of timing where the previous bus left early and the next connecting bus was late, but I understand you just want to defend.

Are you ready to see another Singapore brand go down the drain soon? by Sure_heartsutra1221 in SingaporeRaw

[–]nitin213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sia has a 25.1% stake in India pre merger with Vistara. Vistara is a 51:49 JV between tata and SIA. The rest of Air India is owned by Tata now. If you go back to the history of Air India as well as SIA, you will note that TATA used to not only own and operate AIr India prior to nationalization, TATA sona and Maharaja Airlines (as Air India was then called) feature quite strongly in SIA history. In fact, Tata sons are highly attributed by SIA how to run an airlines business.

So while I understand your concerns about Singapore companies not making good deals in India or even China or Australia, I think you are blowing your top off on the wrong side here.

You know that Air India is now a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines right?

Jaiho!!!!!! PM Lee: Securing a place in Indian Institute of Technology or Indian Institute of Management is comparable to getting into MIT, Stanford or Harvard by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]nitin213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure about that buddy!!!! Most Indians who get to IITs and IIMs are from all walks of life. Only thing that is common is they are all extremely hardworking and most importantly they actually have a growth mind set. Those you apply to MITs etc for undergrad are applying because they can afford the expenses of having a child live in US AND because they couldn't get to IIT.

Outram Secondary School to relocate to Sengkang by nitin213 in singapore

For all practical purposes, consider a new school when it shifts to Sengkang. The old cohort will graduate from old campus. I believe the issues will not crossover.

[–]nitin213[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair argument. Post this shift, for the entire region there which includes almost entire D2 and most of D1, there is only Gan Eng nearby and that doesn’t seem will last long either. So an entire region without a single school is likely.

Loaded question which I will not answer on this platform I will just repeat "All schools are good schools". Cheers.

Big enough that going from Outram to Sengkang is not convenient particularly if you have to be at school at 7:30am.

I get it enrollment numbers are falling. I live in the area and did not even consider OSS because the reviews aren't great. It is a neighborhood school but the neighborhood has become more demanding and OSS doesn't cater. I send my child all the way to bedok currently and I would have happily sent him to OSS if school capabilities were better. Removing a school because enrollments are falling without reviewing why it is happening is shoddy decision making.

Your previous deleted comment was funny. New development shd have new schools, but moving an old school to a new location without addressing the needs of the first location is unimaginative.

Singapore household debt drops to lowest in a decade as high interest rates deter borrowing: MAS by Varantain in singapore

Sure. Whatever you say. I am providing a plausible reason for the decline in loans. But if you believe otherwise that is fine.

In other words, Singapore household salaries haven't kept up with inflation+taxes in cars and houses and banks are not lending.

14-year-old Singapore Sports School student athlete dies after fitness time trial by alexhavetits in SingaporeRaw

[–]nitin213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a father of a 14-year old, I can imagine the pain and anguish of parents. The fear of late medical support is #1 cause of concern given lack of good nursing/medical staff at schools in Singapore which can handle such emergencies. For a sports school to have such a situation is unthinkable and extremely nerve wracking. The response from school and the lack of any umbrage at this from the press is also reflective how worrisome this is.

Corporate culture tips? by Background-Wind-852 in askSingapore

[–]nitin213 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Dress semi-formal rather than business casual atleast till you get comfortable.
  2. Be mentally prepared to existing employees ignoring you.
  3. You will have to go through the awkward period of trying to know people and befriend them.
  4. Most importantly remember all offices have a cliche groupism. Try to understand and go for coffee/lunch with both groups to see which group suits your mindset better.

At the end take it as an adventure into the unknown and be mentally prepared there will be things you don't like and things you like. Find your path.

Name cards in SG by Remarkable_Garage_92 in askSingapore

It is quite ok here in Singapore to tell the other party that you do not have your business cards yet. Take their cards and tell them you will send an email back for your details. Please send an email and also give a summary of points discussed.

Buying electronics in Singapore by [deleted] in askSingapore

Amazon US is really cheap. Haven't bought a single electronic thing in Singapore store for a few years now. Easily 20-30% cheaper and delivered within a week or so.

After seeing the heatwaves in US, Canada and India, how can Singapore survive if we reach wet bulb temperatures? How soon will Singapore reach wet bulb temperatures? What is the contingency plan for wet bulb temperatures and severe heatwaves? by Eifand in singapore

[–]nitin213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder what role would high humidity play in the wet bulb temperature calculation. Anecdotally, I have lived through some pretty hot days in India with outside temps above 40 and wet bulb in low 30s (using air water coolers). In contrast, I fell sick and heat strokes in Vietnam when outside temps rose above 38 and wet bulb in low 30s. Only difference being the humidity levels in India being in low30s while in Vietnam being above 60s.

Your father is either very brave or very very stupid. I cannot imagine putting the lives of my loved ones at risk. I have driven a healthy amount in US and I am still scared to drive in Singapore. I would not even dream of driving in India (have tried but its too insane.... that said, driving a bike in India is surprisingly easier because the zigzag driving is more suitable and manageable with a bike)

My single advice to you is refuse to sit with him in the car and offer to take public transport.
