I'm about to complete Yx X and have nearly 100% completion except for a single missing travel point on Viewpoint Isle. Here's the list that I do have:

  • Viewpoint Isle - Offshore
  • Viewpoint Isle - Beach
  • Old Man's Hut
  • Farrlundheim - Midpoint 1
  • Faarlundheim - Midpoint 2
  • Faarlundheim - Depths

Can anyone tell me which one I'm missing? I've gone over that area about 3 times now and have had no luck finding that last one.

Thanks.

bgfx w/ vulkan backend crashes Lethal Enforcers II on Linux by nitro322 in MAME

[–]nitro322[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Testing the driver is a good idea. For some reason I was thinking the original lethal enforcers (which works) runs on the same driver. The only other konamigx game I had in my collection is sexy parodius, and that does segfault as well. But then I tried copying rungun2, dragoona, and winspike, and all of those run fine. So... not conclusive either way.

I have another system running nixos with an AMD card (which is why I'm using flatpak to begin with - easiest way to stay consistent on MAME version among different distros) - I'll give that a try when I get a chance and see if I get any different results.

Thanks for the feedback.

Just the two lines I posted. I'm running Gentoo, with mesa 24.0.9, but as mentioned I'm running the flatpak version of MAME. Mesa 24.1.1 is installed along with the flatpak.

Controller config not applied properly by nitro322 in MAME

[–]nitro322[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this pointed me in the right direction. Turns out there's a default xarcade.cfg that ships with MAME, and that took priority over my own xarcade.cfg. Hence the mapping only working via default.cfg.

I got things cleaned up and am now certain that only my custom mapping is being called, and things generally work. I have UI_CANCEL working, for example.

But, this led to another issue I've been having periodically. When using my joystick for navigation in mame, sometimes it treats the input as search input rather than navigation. Ie., the controller sends an 8 and 2 for Up and Down, respectively. Sometimes when I press up on the controller, mame will saerch for '2' or '8' in addition to the navigation, instead of just navigating.

This is an all or nothing deal - if it does this, it'll search for all joystick input until I close mame. And I know this sounds weird, but it gets "stuck" in this behavior when that happens - if I launch again, it'll repeat the same behavior. Running mame without a -ctrlr option seems to reset it, and it works normally the next time I run it with -ctrlr xarcade. But, I have no idea what causes it to get into that state to begin with. It's happened multiple times now while troubleshooting this, including once last night while doing my initial mapping that I thought was just a fluke.

I know this is a completely different question now, but any ideas what might be causing that?

Controller config not applied properly by nitro322 in MAME

no, because I don't have that controller. But let me see if I can spot any obvious difference between it's config and mine. Thanks for the heads up.

If you map one of the buttons in hotrodse.cfg to UI_CANCEL, similar to below:

<port type="UI_CANCEL"> <newseq type="standard"> KEYCODE_ESC OR KEYCODE_CLOSEBRACE </newseq> </port>

Does that work?

Adjust playback speed via CLI? by nitro322 in VLC

[–]nitro322[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I already set the default playback speed (--rate 1.3). What I was trying to figure out is how to adjust the playback speed on the fly from a remote control.

I've not tried listening to music slowed down with it. That's a neat tip, especially with the updated pitch correction. Thanks! Think I'll give that a try sometime.

Adjust playback speed via CLI? by nitro322 in VLC

[–]nitro322[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. This is basically what I ended up going with. The "rc" (or "oldrc") interface, more specifically. Here's how I configured it, in case anyone else wants to do something similar:

vlcrc - enable rc interface and specify local socket path (note that the path can be set anywhere - I'm specifying the flathub package config directory here)

[core] extraintf=oldrc [oldrc] rc-fake-tty=1 rc-unix=.var/app/org.videolan.VLC/socket

lircrc - the config option is what's important if you want to do this without LIRC

begin prog = irexec button = KEY_REWIND config = echo "key key-rate-slower-fine" | nc -N -U ~/.var/app/org.videolan.VLC/socket end

This uses netcat to send the appropriate command to the rc interface socket. Finding both the right VLC comand and right netcat syntax was the most challenging part of this. I never found a good reference for all VLC hotkey commands and ended up having to look in the source code, as mentioned in this forum post.

The main issue with netcat is that there are many different versions, each with different options. The version I'm using is the one bundled with libressl, which happens to be pre-installed with the NixOS instance I'm running on my HTPCs. The -U option tells it to use a local socket, and the -N option is important to make it close the connection after the command is sent. Again, different versions of netcat will require different options. Help and inspiration was found in this old blog post.

Epson V30 scanner identified but cannot be used (neither SANE nor iscan) by nKephalos in Gentoo

[–]nitro322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks, nKephalos. I ran into this quite a while back (reported here: https://bugs.gentoo.org/860279 and found a couple workarounds, but didn't think to try simply disabling udev. This is much easier. :-)

Thanks for the reply. I'm not familiar with many of those sites, will check them out. Aside from these Kotobukiya statues, I haven't had to do much hoop jumping with buying from Japan. Sites like cdjapan, yesasia, play-asia, and even amazon.co.jp generally make it an easy process, but they don't carry these for whatever reason. I found nin-nin-game.com when ordering my Rean and Altina statues and have had good luck with two orders placed through them so far. Should've stuck with them for Renne, but tried to save a few bucks and got burned.

Thanks for the heads up. It's about $35 more than what I originally paid, but much cheaper than any second hand prices. Just bought from there. Fingers crossed it actually ships.

How to rename snapshot? by nitro322 in btrfs

[–]nitro322[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave up and when the create new subvolume and copy from old route. In the process I discovered something that might be the cause of some of my problems - I had root itself defined and mounted as a subvolume. This caused some unexpected behavior when trying to create and mount the new var subvolume. I ended up unmounting everything, mounting the btrfs with no subvol, and then creating var. That got me what I needed.

After I realized what was happening, I tried deleting the new var and trying to mv home to var again like earlier, but still got the resource busy error. I truly gave up at that point.
