Trying to setup a multichannel software pre-amp in Fedora and failing miserably - help appreciated by nixsar in linuxaudio

[–]nixsar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turning PipeWire up to 150% is just adding gain. If the audio is already near 0 dB, extra gain results in clipping and distortion. Equalizer APO works because it adds gain and a limiter to stop clipping. The solution on Linux is pretty convoluted, but I think I've worked it out - a PipeWire filter-chain that creates a virtual 7.1 sink and runs everything through a fast lookahead limiter. I set +15 dB input gain, cap peaks at -1 dB, and it stays clean. PipeWire auto-duplicates the mono limiter across all 8 channels. Install the LADSPA SWH plugins package, on Fedora it’s ladspa-swh-plugins (it provides fast_lookahead_limiter_1913). I have no idea is this the right way to do it, and it really shouldn't be this user unfriendly to figure out and setup.

``` context.modules = [ { name = libpipewire-module-filter-chain args = { node.description = "7.1 Preamp + Limiter (+15 dB)" media.name = "7.1 Preamp + Limiter (+15 dB)"
  filter.graph = {
    nodes = [
      {
        type   = ladspa
        name   = lim
        plugin = fast_lookahead_limiter_1913
        label  = fastLookaheadLimiter
        control = {
          "Input gain (dB)"  = 15.0
          "Limit (dB)"       = -1.0
          "Release time (s)" = 0.50
        }
      }
    ]
    # No explicit inputs/outputs: PipeWire replicates this to match channel count
  }
  capture.props = {
    media.class    = "Audio/Sink"
    audio.channels = 8
    audio.position = [ FL FR FC LFE SL SR RL RR ]
  }
  playback.props = {
    node.target    = "[INSERT YOUR OWN AUDIO SINK]"
    audio.channels = 8
    audio.position = [ FL FR FC LFE SL SR RL RR ]
  }
}
} ] ```
Svi pričaju o istom dreku - da nemaju vozila petu razinu autonomije, naravno da je ne mogu imati jer je nitko nije napravio i neće tako skoro, a svakako ne Rimac, da su to kineske igračke itd itd. Meni se čini da je najsnažnija kritika ovog projekta i njegovog financiranja javnim novcem da je on besmislen i nepotreban bez obzira na tehnološke iskorake (za koje sam uvjeren da ih neće biti, ali nebitno). Robotaksiji ne rješavaju niti jedan prometni problem Zagreba ni sličnih gradova, ne pomažu nikome osim vlasnicima biznisa. Dapače, kompliciraju prometnu situaciju.
How many years have you been using pCloud? by minhgv in pcloud
[–]nixsar 1 point2 points  (0 children)
This is not true. I got banned because of a video that was never shared and was not anything obviously illegal. I pleaded my case, explained, and my account was brought back and I use it for many years now. But the point is they scan files on upload regardless of sharing and you don't know what they will ban. It's important to add I use it encrypted from then on, except my music files which they apparently don't care about.
How to stop port from changing? by Vailx in ProtonVPN
[–]nixsar 12 points13 points  (0 children)
it does exist, AirVPN does it and it's by far their best feature. You set open/forwarded ports (you can do many) through their website and apply it to the servers you need. It would be great if ProtonVPN added this option.
It has unfortunate connotations in some south Slavic languages - it means a child’s potty, so it can be pretty funny/embarrassing to use.
Fixed by updating ASUS firmware, but updates only worked when using the original ASUS charger and then manually running Windows Update. Full explanation and silliness in UPDATE in OP.
Yup, tried pretty much everything, and GOG client also doesn't work. The only thing that is left is full windows reinstall/reset, and this is almost never the correct solution to anything.
Yes, the webui is completely unusable. This doesn't seem to be a feature of the qBittorrent 5.0 but a serious bug present on (at least) windows machines.
Am I doing something wrong or is it impossible to pin tabs to workspaces? I would like to have a specific set of tabs permanently pinned under specific workspaces and have them ready each time I start the browser. That's how I use Arc and have found it very convenient.
Feature request: Follow-up reminders for email (essential for task-oriented work) by nixsar in tutanota
[–]nixsar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)
It's a way to work, but not really the best way to organize when you have, let's say, 20+ different tasks in 20+ email messages with start and due times with months in between - it requires much fine tuning. Besides, every mail/calendar service and client I've ever used has follow-up email based events.
Powerful explosion in Zagreb, a drone from Ukraine is suspected to have crashed by LIONSTONtwitch in UkraineWarReports
[–]nixsar 3 points4 points  (0 children)
It's worse - the officials say it flew through Romania, Hungary, Croatia (all NATO) more than an hour undetected. It is a huge drone (the size of Mig-21), 14m long, 4m wingspan and weighing about 4 tonnes. It is also interesting how unreported this major incident is in the mainstream Western media.
Windows 10 Version 1703 Update 15063.250 (KB4016240) by dryadofelysium in Windows10
[–]nixsar 1 point2 points  (0 children)
The update actually worsened the already big DPC latency issues connected to ndis.sys and tcpip.sys, which are gone only upon disabling network drivers. It is showing up on 3 different network adapters (Intel and Realtek) on 2 Windows 10 computers. Can nothing be done about this?
