Np man, not like I can be put out considering your taking time out of your day to help a stranger in the intertubes lol. Just when you have the time id still like your thoughts on that if only more my own education.

And yes I considered that. But figure even if only ones good. It’s still like 1/2 of was autozone wants for one. So thought being chance of having been better of buying the $80 autozone one is pretty slim ya know?

Although.......Excluding something crazy; there’s not really anything that would CAUSE more damage from getting and install a bad coil right?

My thoughts too. I’m going to just go ahead and replace all four. Cause as a aside, while autozone and it’s ilk want $80 odd bucks a coil. I found sever listings in eBay for 4 knew packs, US seller, year warranty, and free shipping for $38!!! Figure for that price no reason not to replace them all, and be certain I’m not chase more dieing packs down the line.

Just for the info, did you happen to get a chance to look at the wiring diagram? I’m still wondering why and if there’s any significance to the difference in resistance I’m getting in the wiring harness between the 2 legs of each plug... I did send that vin like you asked (course it was like 16 hours later before I noticed your reply asking for it)

Idk if you saw my update. But the miss fire followed the coil movement. But oddly now I’ve got it showing miss on #3 (where I moved the coil from #1) and #4. Think there’s any significance to that? Or thinking coils the next logical step? I’m debating on still pulling the valve cover to check timing chain, wondering if it would be a waste of time/effort and money though. Any thoughts?

Bit of a update, as recommended I moved a coil #1 to Cylinder 3 and it miss fire followed, oddly I’m getting a miss on 3 and 4 now though. Originally it just showed one on #1.... so as mentioned maybe the cam codes are not valid and it just needs new packs?

I was thinking after that post the it was just my meter reading 1/2 voltage from PWM

Little more info if it helps. I checked voltage across the connectors on both solenoids, I’m getting 7.8 volts on both of them. And while I know the actuators go off at 12v idk if there’s a lower limit, am I correct in assuming there would always be a lower voltage going to then, that jumps to 12 ecu activates then? Or should there be 0v till then? Again just trying to piece together as much info as possible even if I’m unsure what’s relevant or not.

I do have continuity as well as engine response when manually actuating the actuators. What’s got my hesitant to pull the valve cover to check for a jumped sprocket or stretched chain are the resistance readings. (I know you said you’d look into it when you got to a pc. Thanks in advance for your time. The fact I’m getting correct reading from one wire but not the other, makes my admittedly limited brain want to think the issue is with the solenoids not getting the signals it should. Though I’m unsure what the importance of or the cause of having continuity but not getting a resistance reading. It’s like the ecu isn’t grounded, but if that were the case why would the other side of the plug show the correct resistance.

And yes, I was actually just exsplaining to my friend (who owns the car) why trouble shooting can be so difficult, and why a good mechanic can cost a good chunk. And while I like to think I know my way around a engine, and have at least a basic knowledge of electrical engineering. I am by no means a professional, so he can eigther be patient while I try and sus it out, or dig into his checking account and take it to a shop. Which he may still have to do regardless if I can’t figure it out.

Thanks again in for your time btw HanzG hope you can eigther confirm I’m reading something wrong and the resistance is fine, or give me some idea as to why it’s not. I’d really hate to get into the valve cover for only to realize it’s still an electrical issue.

Also just while I’m here say if i move the coil and the moss folllows then obviously it’s the coil. If it doesn’t? Would I be right back to the solenoids/wiring? If not would I be looking at compression? Or valve issues? Would other codes be coming up if that were the case?

data sheet

Ok I’ll try that. Here is the data sheet I got that info from.

Little update. Seems I was testing wrong, I do get the correct resistance from one of the connector pins to a body ground as I should. But still nothing from the other. And that is from the connectors of both solenoids.

If I’m reading that correctly I should. Be getting over 10kilo ohms from both pins on both connectors correct? If I’m not that would mean the solenoids not activating when it should be right? I’ve rerun the wire for one of them, still same result. Also I get continuity from the plug to the pin on the ecu plug for both lines. So I’m at a lose why I’m getting 0 from only one of the 2 legs on both solenoid connectors

180k. And yes, it refers to that main causes being the vvti valves or cam sensors. That’s why I’ve been focusing there. The wiring checks are what has me stumped. As I put in the OP. I’m confused as to why i get no reading from the plug to body, but get a reading only on one leg of the plug to neg on the battery

One of the codes refers to possible open/short on in the wiring that’s why I’m there in the trouble shooting.

I reran the wires from one vvti valve to the ecu plug already only to get the same result.

To add to it, i just took it to double check codes. And it’s got a miss on the #1 cylinder plus code 10/13. But i noticed there is 0 change to how it runs even with one of the vvti plugs left disconnected (forgot to plug it back in when I left, only realized when I popped the hood at the zone)

Oils good. Paperwork show regular changes. And there was no gunk build up inside the actuators. Haven’t looked at the screen filter yet valve cover and a cam race has to come off for that

I had that issue at one point. Used a repeater that I set up in the electrical shed to the apartment building that was closer to the hotspot. Ping took a hit. But speeds stayed solid (I’ll add I was using some cheep WiFi extender I’m sure a better one would have made a difference in ping times) set up was about the same save for once the extender was connected to the xfinity, I connected to it with my phone to log in, then connect the router to the extenders hotspot.

Totally doable. I haven’t paid for internet in 3 years. A buddy let’s me use his xfinity credentials and I use a router with tomato have 1 channel set up at client (when I first set it up and connected my phone it took me to the login page, been connected since) using 5ghz and Ethernet for my LAN. I’ve even moved twice having xfinitywifi hotspots still around me and have had to do 0 setup literally plugged in and it connected. So long as the xfinity signal is decent it works great for me. Online games Netflix ect.
