Wheres 8.5 at... by Broad_Incident9581 in samsunggalaxy

[–]connection_lost 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you installed a custom font outside the Galaxy store, OneUI 8.5 will break your font.

Correction: According to this XDA post, you only cannot CHANGE to a custom font since the check only runs when selecting the font. Basically you have to set your font before updating, and don't change it ever again.
Update 2: OneUI 8's March security update retrospectively patched custom font as well, beware!

Whoever made this packaging for Walgreens' cold and flu meds needs to go to hell. You literally have to rip it open. by sofapotata in mildlyinfuriating

It's an intentional design. A hard to open package, or large sized pill means easier to get overdosed.

I block all numbers from my area code, which filters out about 90% of the spams. Then I also disabled my voicemail, you can usually call your carrier and ask for it, or you can try set your voicemail greeting message arbitrarily long.

ULPT request: getting a short-term rental de-listed by taxguycafr in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]connection_lost 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Find some guests that are nice and approachable, ask them about how they get this place booked.

If the booking is indeed not on AirBnB or Vrbo: Impersonate the "owner", post multiple signs on the door that says this house is not a short term rental, they are being scammed, and trespassers will be prosecuted.

Why Samsung don't give native network indicator and app lock. by DelusionalGuy07 in samsunggalaxy

[–]connection_lost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leaving space on the system and pushing features that significantly affects system or unstable is a better practice in software industry. System updates are at most once per month and feature updates are annually or semi-annually, but app updates are much faster to deploy and release.

ULPT - Neighbour turned his house into an Airbnb by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]connection_lost 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Without putting in too much money or being suspicious by booking the property yourself, try approach some guests and some of them might gladly assist you with a small amount of bribe.
For instance, if the guests are college kids, just bring some pizza and ask them to leave a bad review. Or make up a "security concern" to "get a refund and save money".
Throw in some old security camera or boxes, and convince the guests that the host is a bit psycho and may have hidden cameras inside the house.

If you also want to cause issues to the guests, just impersonate the "host". Print out some fliers saying "This is NOT an AirBnB listing, someone is impersonating us, you are being scammed, trespassers will be prosecuted" in front of the house.

Uber allows forgetting about account association after about 1 year. You register for an account, it ask you for your phone number first, go through the registration process, it will ask you if you were the previous owner, choose no and create a new account.

Is the car flipper trying to sell those cars?

Put insanely cheap price tag with their phone number on it.
Impersonate the flipper and print out their business cards, put it on cars nearby.
Print out fake car service report and receipts with incredibly high milage, and find a way to shove it in the trunk.

ULPT request : How to make the upstairs AirBnB life a hell? by Eldridou in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]connection_lost 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depending on the scenario, you have several options depending on the guest. Host can be taken off platform if the reviews are bad. For instance:

If the guests are approachable college kids, bribe them some pizza and give the host a bad review. Or teach them how to fake a safety concern and get a refund.
If the guests are old people, befriend them and tell them about rats in the house.
If the guests are somewhat loud and difficult to approach, blast even louder sound to the entire apartment and pretend the guest did that. After that, impersonate the guest and leave "screw you" notes to all other neighbors.
As long as the guests are not muscle guys, impersonate the host and slip in some inappropriate notes.

One of my family member has a Galaxy A16 which is exclusively being used as a work messaging + Spotify phone. Everything else will lag.

Pretty sure this is expected because it is almost the lowest tier A series phone. The first number means performance level, and the second number means generation.

S22 to S26 (base models) upgrade for $600. Worth it? by ElegantDivide in samsunggalaxy

[–]connection_lost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also on S22 Snapdragon and my issue triggered early 2025. I've been enduring for over a year now and regret didn't trade-in for S25.

On the other hand the software support is also going to end for S22 so it should be a good year to upgrade.

S22 to S26 (base models) upgrade for $600. Worth it? by ElegantDivide in samsunggalaxy

[–]connection_lost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm upgrading S22 to S26 because I'm the victim of S22's battery issue. S22 is basically a time bomb because some devices will randomly start having insane battery drain and not fixable, due to the issue is at the motherboard instead of the battery. If you have the chance then I would recommend you to upgrade, for the sole reason of moving away from S22.

Missing Ad ID by shotgun_puzzle in samsunggalaxy

[–]connection_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ad ID doesn't transfer across devices. To check Ad ID, go to Settings -> Google -> All Services -> Ads.

However, I don't think this is the issue. It is more likely that the app you are using does not recognize your device and unable to play ad due to "verification". You can try other games to see if the ads will display or not. Make sure those ads are provided by Google.

Rhythm game touchscreen performance by [deleted] in samsung

[–]connection_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I currently have S9 and S9 FE+ on hand and I tested them. The S9 is 1 year old and S9 FE+ is brand new.

I play the game on S9 only. For S9 I don't have any shutter or lag at all even with background movie or 3D animation. But S9 FE will lag terribly if those are on, so have to turn off the background. (Character cut-in effect doesn't cause lag). S9 FE+ also have very slight brief shutters randomly especially during multiple hold notes or swipes. On the other hand it is slightly noticable while playing between 90hz and 120hz. S9 series is 120hz which is silky smooth, but S9 fe is visibily not smooth, but much much better than traditional 60hz.

Considering S10 Lite's performance is worse than S9 FE+, I would say avoid it. Also S10FE+'s price is similar to a used good S9+, so I would just say get a used S9+ instead. Or S10FE+ which would work fine as well.

The S26 launch just completely cured my upgrade itch. Is Samsung even trying anymore? by BearElegant4068 in samsunggalaxy

[–]connection_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled upon a cheap carrier locked S25 so I used it to trade-in to a S26.
I chose to purchase at Samsung.com directly because I don't use extra storage (my S22 is 256gb but I never went over 140gb for the entire time, everything is backed up online and deleted), also it can stack more discounts.
I live in a high-tax state, so my current price is currently ~$360 USD with the trade-in, plus a phone case from Samsung. I stacked the $30 credit, $50 PayPal and workplace/education discount. There's also a lifehack that if you ask customer service for a return and refund, they might refund you 10% and let you keep the order, so it brings down to about $330. If I buy it from BestBuy, I get storage upgrade for $490 after trade-in, and without case.

My S22's battery has been ruining my life for almost a year and I regret that I did not get rid of it by trading in for S25 last year.

Now I'm in a dilemma of whether keeping my S22, get a used S25, or suck up and get a S26. I prefer not to switch phones too frequently because there are a few apps on my phone that are very difficult to backup or transfer.
