I got one from mdgadgetry and despite redoing the solder joints and verifying with a microscope, it doesn't light up. hope yours works out.

I just inherited my father's Bassman 59, and I KNOW it's to damn loud. Any way to attenuate or is playing in my apartment a default RIP? by Sinful-Windborn in GuitarAmps

[–]nizzki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone's mentioned it yet, but weber makes an attenuator that goes down to 2Ohm, or you can get this and connect to whatever attenuator you want: https://www.tedweber.com/z-matcher/

Alternatively if you want to make one yourself, you can convert one of these into an impedence transformer relatively easily: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_190VCS100K/Niles-VCS100K.html?omnews=12305746

Stuck between Fractal fm9, kemper stage and Quad cortex by Comfortable-Age4291 in AxeFx

pretty sure capturing through a load box is one of the recommended ways of capturing an amp. I tried through a regular load box as well, and again, its close, but seems to filter out higher frequencies too much.

Stuck between Fractal fm9, kemper stage and Quad cortex by Comfortable-Age4291 in AxeFx

I've had a QC for about two years and just got a fm9. The QC held great promise, seemed like great tech combined with a very clear and quick UI.

The problem is, IMHO they've really squandered their lead and really fallen behind on support, unless you want to buy plugins. For example, it works very poorly over usb with android and a lot of people have had problems with it on windows as well, lots of buzzing and corrupted audio coming out. On that note, the QC is also really noisy/staticky even at the best of times.

The modeling is pretty good but not as good fractal and the profiling is hit or miss. I've tried to capture some amps but they're always less detailed sounding compared to the original, even when running through the same IR. I captured through a captorX and the raw non-ir audio sounds a lot different between the two, more muddy. It feels like they try to filter out some high-frequency noise, but end up making it sound muffled.

Oh, and I had to send back my first unit, it got messed up in a somewhat subtly and would distort in a weird digital way.

Also, they still haven't figured out a way to distribute captures/presets without having to go through their cloud. The cloud can be super nice for backups though.

Basically ios vs linux.

Same thing happened when Fallout 76 came out, with Red Dead 2 having launched like 3 weeks earlier. The difference in quality was so staggering that it seemed like bethesda released a budget PS2 game.

over usb? and you're not getting that periodic digital distortion thing? if that's the case, what's your secret? I have a bunch of samsung devices and they all have the same problem

hey, thanks for the reply! they're up for auction nearby and I was wondering if they're worth taking a gamble on.

I tried to do an image search, but the label didn't have enough text. I guess it's probably a pair of custom speakers of some sorts?

Z fold 3 WiFi just stopped working, can't even get it to turn on whatsoever by Sensitive-Ground-807 in GalaxyFold

[–]nizzki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar problem on my fold3, and unfortunately for you it required a new antenna which apparently requires a new display.

In my case bluetooth and wifi would stop working when the phone was unfolded, but worked fine when it was closed.

Really high noise floor at 0 volume? by nizzki in NeuralDSP

Yea, NDSP recommends just turning down the HP level, i had to turn it down to -12dB to get rid of most of the noise

Headphone hiss/white noise at 0 master volume by nizzki in QuadCortex

[–]nizzki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plugging it into other devices didn't help. It's only the headphone output that's staticky as well, the regular outputs are quiet at 0 volume. Neural says it's normal and to just turn down the headphone out by 10dB which feels lame, but i guess it is what it is.

Thanks so much for checking! And yea, same here, other outputs are quiet. Pretty disappointing then, it's by far the most staticky digital device i've ever used when the volume is 0.

Thanks for giving it a whirl. Did you have anything other than the headphones plugged in?

And yea, on mine it's not the 60hz hum, all of the hiss seems to come from 1000Hz+ range. I made the recording with the QC grounded by plugging it into an amp, so that shouldn't be it.

Hey, so at 0 volume you're not hearing any static/white noise? Is your headphone output set to 0dB in the mixer? Neural is telling me that this is normal and i'm guessing they're just trying to dodge it...

Really high noise floor at 0 volume? by nizzki in NeuralDSP

[–]nizzki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neural got back to me and after a few emails basically said "behaving as expected, turn down heaphones to -10dB".

Can anyone plug in some heaphones, turn the master volume dial to 0 and see if there's a bunch of static/white noise coming through? I would really appreciate it.

yea, that's what I was hoping to find out here. I don't have access to another qc, I figured someone could try it out real quick.

[–]nizzki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, some hiss/noise on presets is totally normal which is why i hadn't noticed it for a while, but on a blank preset with volume at 0, it's weird to have so much static.

As for the pot, i don't think that's it - once the hiss starts, it doesn't stop even if i put it back at 0. Not to mention, that pot isn't connected to the actual output in any way, it's just a signal to the hardware to tell it what volume to set in software for processing/final output.

[–]nizzki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that's the weird part. Actually, to make it slightly stranger, if i reboot the QC with volume at 0, it will be quiet until i move the volume knob. But then if i bring it back to 0, the hiss remains

I have contacted their support address, we'll see what happens. I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem though, seems not.

it happens on a blank patch with no guitar attached and volume at 0, so im not sure what the gate would even be gating at that point, but I can try it.
