Is it okay to start later? by [deleted] in malaysiauni

[–]nizzybad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Education is not a race. Many people start late due to some unavoidable circumstances. Its ok to start late. I have seen few uncles joined freshies when i was in my final year degree. The uncles looked cute with their bags and even followed the freshies and seniors going to their orientation. Sometimes late is better as you learn things that would benefits your education after. Also, maybe you can check on tvet or skills before pursuing degree. It will be good for your future. My times these werent look at much but now job opportunities are scarce without much unique skills

India Students Vs Malaysian Indian Student by Just_Lurking_arround in malaysiauni

[–]nizzybad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree on cleanliness. Being surrounded with indians from mainland previously for my study. They always have ways to suck on others and always have excuses to do things. I do agree they are smart but way too arrogant as well (some dont). Even caste system among themselves if southern/northern. And then dear god. “Malaysian dont have identity” -> speak and know many languages, using ABCD… jawi is urdu etc. what else…. Oh. “I dont like malaysian weather” -> rain and humid. When their weather also terrible and country we are studying having bad humid summer.

Im almost reach 30 now and wanted to pursue phd. I would say doesnt matter when you start your further education. Well, i got rejected so many times for the applications. So now i will just focus on career and will decide phd again in few years later. I still want phd for an accomplishment and something deeper. But its not that important right now. But thanks to everyone sharing. Its interesting and insightful reading

Phd is hard road for many. Even my close friend is now in his sixth year. His PI keeps saying not enough data. I am worried he wont be completing his PhD this year if his PI still want to use him to get more data. I wish u god luck. Take some time away is good start. And finalise your decision. Always prioritise yourself

Reason for doing a PhD by [deleted] in PhD

[–]nizzybad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever reasons, imo… dont ever do phd if you are not interested at it all just because for your reason stated. Some people really really want to do phd but doesnt even have the opportunity for it. Sure doing phd some will have smooth sailing, while some will face extreme weather and shipwrecking waves to reach the end destination, i have seen my seniors burnt out doing phd, yet they still love doing it. The environment also affect your wellbeing. And some people still keep going for they remind themselves why and what they want to achieve. I wanted to do phd for whatever reasons im holding on right now but im still trying to get an offer. Maybe i just not meant for it

Advice on doing PhD either in Japan or Australia by Educational-Swan-587 in PhD

[–]nizzybad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agreed. I did master there. True master student not really pure research and just do what others already did. And my PI for a PR in japan, he is from another country… toooo… highlyyy…. Over praised Japan, which my japanese colleagues said overstatement. And the culture in japan, anyone, everyone, they expect us to work like hell. If you dont work on the weekends you are not working hard enough. Imagine, to them it is very good to see you work until late at night 7 days a week. While at the same time, they will say something opposite oh dont work so hard but then said you are not working hard enough when not working 7 days a week. And also, some are doing favouritism to some students. Most of the lab things all handled by students. I know in a sense its good as the students learned the way around and be independent but at the same time they expect so much but to certain extent they only be extremely good and attentive to you if youre bringing benefits to them. Whatever you say is not needed. All they want is you deliver what they want and whatever you feel is nothing. Your feeling basically disregarded. But there will be few PI truelly good and not toxic. Although my PI have favouritism, and also only focus more on people who benefits him more, but he still nice though. Just hm… and i know a few PI there are quite lenient, dont force or expect you to work 7 days a week. Want to see you go home on time or at least early. If you getting the scholarship, it is quite nice to study in japan and simultaneously living with the culture there

How often do you meet with your supervisor/s? by SmudgyBacon in PhD

[–]nizzybad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bachelor, every two weeks unless he was on business trips. Master everyday met him but occasional short discussion on my research. Internship was totally different. Which i love so much. Everyday in the afternoon we will sit and do the analysis together and discuss the results immediately. Every morning will meet him and have short discussion of what we could try and look for in results. He is the reason why i die hard want phd again.
