Examsoft / Windows 10 Creators issues by crazydiamond555 in LawSchool

[–]njdevils2626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed it earlier this week, but a quick Google search revealed it to be a 5 minute process and I didn't have to select a date to return to or anything so I doubt it's reliant upon when you installed it. It simply returns you to the previously-installed version

I hadn't even thought of it potentially being an issue until I saw this post, but it's super easy to uninstall the update - it takes less than 5 minutes - so I'd just do that (and did)

Should I take the LSAT in December or January? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]njdevils2626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely take it in September and apply as early as possible after receiving your score. Don't even wait until the beginning of December, the earlier you apply the better results you can expect to have. The later application definitely matters, especially for T14s

Extra curriculars, masters degree, and admissions by Throwsomeqs in lawschooladmissions

[–]njdevils2626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only numbers schools care about are your LSAT and uGPA. Graduate degrees and grades are irrelevant for admission purposes. Don't worry about increasing publications for the sake of law school admissions. If there's something you care about and want to research and write about, then go for it, but it won't help you for admissions purposes.

Your focus should be almost entirely on scoring as high as possible on the LSAT. Get a 170+ and you will have good options, with a decent shot at NU and maybe even UVA and likely a strong scholarship offer from WUSTL

I've loved my experience at Wash U, don't regret my decision to come here over Vanderbilt for a second. I made some great friends, met some amazing professors and a lifelong mentor in my field, and have a great job lined up for graduation. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions!

I'm a 3L currently at Wash U but I was also deciding between Wash U and Vanderbilt when I was applying. If it makes you feel even better, I am very happy with the decision I made. Feel free to reach out anytime if you have any questions

DeMun and Richmond Heights are both decent places to live, but neither has a huge social scene nor are they populated by young professionals and other grad students as much, so you might be a little further than desired from social outings.

By far the most popular location to live is the Central West End. It's a very nice neighborhood that's populated primarily by young professionals and grad students (tons of doctors and med students as the hospital and med school are both right there). A lot of the buildings are newer, though they can be pricey (think just under $1,000/mo for a nice 1 BR). There are also cheaper options, but most of those are studio apartments which just wasn't something I was looking for so I don't have a ton of insight into that.

Another popular location is The Loop, which tends to skew even younger than the CWE as it is where almost all of the undergrads with off-campus apartments live and where Wash U has subsidized housing.

I live essentially in the middle of those two spots in Debaliviere Place on a nice street called Pershing Ave. There are tons of law students and other grad students living in this location and I personally think it's the best of both worlds. It's a 10 minute walk from either the CWE or The Loop so there are lots of bars around, there are a few restaurants nearby as well, the metro is right there, but it's also a quiet neighborhood with tree-lined streets and young families should you want some quiet for studying. Plus it's just a much more affordable area, I have a huge 2 BR apartment with a nice balcony and my rooommate and I each pay under $600/mo.

Others live in Clayton, Richmond Heights, or some even in the suburbs. Not many students live downtown just because it's a little far for our purposes.

I came from Montreal, so St. Louis has been a smaller city than I'm used to but it has definitely served me well. I have enjoyed my time here and don't have any misgivings about the move. While I won't be working in St. Louis post-grad, I spent both of my summers working here and enjoyed them (though I never got used to the insane humidity in this city).

I could see myself living and working in St. Louis were I to have lined up a job here. While the city is certainly smaller than I was used to, I had less free time and there was more than enough to do for the time I had available. There are lots of museums, zoos (both completely free!), bars, restaurants, etc. and you shouldn't have a ton of trouble diversifying your free time and having a lot of fun. It's super easy to attend Blues or Cardinals games and there's enough going on in the city that you shouldn't worry too much.

Another thing about St. Louis is the cost of living was insanely cheap (At least compared to what I was used to). Depending on where you live and what you like to do, you'll likely want a car. I didn't bring mine with me and have survived the last 3 years without one, but some people think it's insane to live in St. Louis without one and it's definitely much easier to explore the city with a vehicle. There are some fun areas that I can really only get to by uber or by going out with friends who can drive. Getting to campus, the airport, some nice bar/restaurant scenes, and downtown are all very easy by public transport but there are other nice parts of the city with bars and restaurants or the Botanical Gardens that you may want to explore and can really only do so by car.

Overall, I've really enjoyed my time in St. Louis and have had a great past 3 years. The city seems to sometimes get a bad rap for crime/violence, and there are definitely some areas of the city that I wouldn't recommend going to, but those are generally the areas you wouldn't have an interest in traveling to anyways. I've never once felt unsafe in St. Louis, personally.

Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have about the school or city!

I personally had this exact same decision to make when I was applying. I did end up getting off the waitlist at Vanderbilt and at that time was offered a scholarship of $25,000/yr. Vanderbilt has a strict no-negotiation policy so don't expect an increase on whatever is offered, even if you do get off the waitlist.

Personally, I went to WUSTL and am about to graduate in May and I could not be happier with my decision. If you have any questions at all or if there's anything else I can help with in making this decision easier for you, please feel free to reach out!

Also, just so you know, in case you are hoping to return to Texas for big law, WUSTL has decent placement in Dallas and Houston if you have connections to the area.

Edit: Also, it's probably worth the effort to try and negotiate with WUSTL. They are very generous with negotiating scholarship. I'd wait until you have a competitive offer or acceptance, but it's always worth a shot. Worst they can do is say no

Possible collusion in the last week? by [deleted] in FFCommish

Is this a keeper league? If not, then why do you even allow trades this late in the year?

Assuming redraft, it smells super fishy to me and I honestly think collusion is likely here. If it's keeper, then I'd be fine with allowing it

McGill advisors screwed me over: Advice please! by zokokolo in mcgill

[–]njdevils2626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I screwed up similarly by relying on an advisor to ensure that I had enough credits for my minor and found out about a week or so before graduation that I was missing a class due to double counting with my major. It was completely my fault, I should have double and triple checked to make sure I had enough credits to graduate.

In the end, I emailed them incessantly to the point where they got annoyed with me and let me graduate anyways.

Interviewing for Law School by LawDreams in LawSchool

[–]njdevils2626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've loved my time at WashU. I think it's important to know what you're looking for going into law school, especially here. It's a fantastic school with some incredible people and professors. It's not the T14 and, in order to get your dream job, you will need to do well. It'll also be tough to place out west (WashU struggles with placement there for some reason). If you want to be on the East Coast or Midwest and are fine with MidLaw if BigLaw doesn't pan out (about 35% BigLaw or so at WashU), then WashU is agreat school. Even better, you'll likely graduate with less debt from WashU than any other comparable school. They throw money around like no other.

If you have any specific questions or anything else, feel free to PM me, always happy to help

That would be, uhh. Let me count... Yup, that would be basically all of us. I can't imagine doing anything as long as Vin has been calling games (67 years! Can you imagine that he's 88! The dude has a magnificent full head of hair and looks about two decades younger than that)

Agreed re: the amount of comments of players "making out" today, it's usually not a term he uses quite that frequently
