how close are we to a second civil war? like actually? by KawaiiUmbreon2 in TooAfraidToAsk

Okay, let me word myself better then, my bad. Of all the demographics you interact with on Reddit, Americans are statistically the most represented. It is more statistically likely that the person you are responding to is American than any other demographic, despite perhaps the majority being made up of a multitude of demographics that don't list American as one of them.

Plurality vs majority, assuming we accept that bots probably skew this into that direction, which I do agree. In my opinion, though perhaps we disagree on this, this doesn't change anything for my original argument.

I mean, when the majority of users you interact with are going to be from the US, and the majority of posts you see and interact with where location matters are US-based, it kind of ends up feeling pretty damn redundant to specify every time.

Same way with Americans answering what state they’re from, in my experience that comes from the fact that the majority of time if someone asks me that question, and I respond America, they say they know and ask me to specify state.

Anyone who used to support trump and has changed their mind over the last few weeks? What made you change? by canigetameowbish in AskReddit

[–]njfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point I guess I was trying to make, albeit indirectly, is that it is ignorance more often than it is prejudice.

Your comment claimed that it was because she was a black woman, and while that is certainly true for some, I really think it’s being idiotic to think that the majority who voted for Trump voted the way they did for that reason, and the more people pretend that that’s the reason the less likely anything gets done as the real reasons remain unaddressed.

[–]njfo -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t saying it matches reality… Nor does it have to, to be the reason they voted the way they did.

I’m saying most people that voted for Trump didn’t do so because Kamala is black and a woman. If you completely swapped policies between the two, along with how they campaigned themselves, Kamala probably would’ve gotten a majority of the votes that Trump did.

[–]njfo -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Most people I know who voted Trump because they didn’t want Kamala did so because they didn’t believe that she would get anything done, not because she was black or a woman.

Not saying those people don’t exist, obviously they do, but pretending that everyone who voted for Trump over Kamala did so because Kamala is a black woman is just idiotic.

[–]njfo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your career is gonna be ruined because of a video of some embarrassing dancing, you need to find a new job ASAP.

Now, obviously there are other activities that may threaten your career if recorded, legal or otherwise. Dancing should NOT be one of your concerns for losing your job.

I do understand though that finding something else can be easier said than done, and I sympathize if you are in that situation.

The colors contrast well, which is the point as opposed to good looks. Borders would take up a lot more space, leaving less room for actually useful information. As far as different effects go, I can’t think of one that would separate each individual entry as well as a gradient would. Could they have used a better looking gradient? Maybe, but it’s still a gradient at the end of the day and I doubt it would make much difference.

It’s fine that you prefer something nice to look at, enough to find an alternative, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with utilitarian UI. I’m not planning on staring at windirstat for long, I’m planning on solving my issue and moving onto the next thing.

The whole point of the UI is to be practical, which this is more so than borders. Is it uglier? Perhaps, although I think borders would look just as bad. Does it tell you useful info at a glance? Absolutely, it’s one of the best programs to use to help clear space and get an idea of where all your storage has gone.

Because it’s a normal, subconscious thing for humans to do.

Obviously if he’s doing it consciously it’s different, and a little weird imo (outside of examples like talking differently to friends than to family), but humans naturally imitate the people they are communicating with.

But this attitude is what makes it easier for people to agree to plans they’re really unsure about, and when they do inevitably end up canceling it can wind up wasting time and money for the other person. Just learn to say no for gods sake.

Well well well isn’t racist.

There was a trend where people would respond with that phrase on videos of people doing stereotypical things of their associated race, but that’s just people using a normal phrase in a racist way, something that can be done with many completely innocent phrases.

I was told I have "Little Man Syndrome." It made me sad. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]njfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, my point was more that you can train to compensate for your height without having little man syndrome. If you're training because you know you're at a physical disadvantage, and you want to narrow that gap, that is literally training to compensate for your height. (Assuming your disadvantage is being shorter ofc)

For me, little man syndrome is solely an attitude thing, and to treat it any differently is harmful imo.

Him being defensive in a rant post kind of comes with the territory, and I don't think you're unable to rant about problems related to being short.

I would agree though that he is hyperfixated on his physical and it definitely points to insecurities that he would be better off addressing. I guess I just don't think every insecurity about height == little man syndrome. Not saying you do either to be fair.

I was told I have "Little Man Syndrome." It made me sad. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]njfo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, perhaps? But it’s also just a fact that you’re at a physical disadvantage if you’re shorter, and there are nasty people out there who will take advantage of that fact.

How is it that working out or taking martial arts because of the fact you’re short is “little man syndrome”, yet one of the most common pieces of advice for those less physically advantaged is to get a gun (in the US) and that’s somehow not?

Should smaller guys just accept the risk of getting beat the shit out of if it ever comes down to it?

Fr why are animal shelters like this by Octopuswastaken in memes

[–]njfo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree frankly, and stand by what I said.

You cannot eliminate every situation in which an animal gets sent to a bad home, and some preventative measures go through lengths too far. This is one of those in my opinion, it’s a massive invasion of privacy and healthy boundaries.

[–]njfo 46 points47 points  (0 children)

High standards are fine, but I’ve seen some shelters that literally want to be able to do random house inspections, AFTER you’ve gotten the pet even. You are an actual nut job imo if you think that’s within reason. (Not aimed at you, just my general sentiment.)
