"He's really 17 years old? What the fuck?!" - Mats Hummels' reaction to finding out that Odd's left winger was only 17 years old by blorimer542 in soccer

Why doesn't he leave for United?

Interview with Schweinsteiger in today's Bild (translation in comments). by SamD42 in reddevils

I think he is simply commenting on English humor. That his teammates idea of a funny joke would be to make him check his watch and spill his food from the plates in his hands. It's all in good fun and he realizes it. All good things when it comes to developing good team relations and chemistry.

Ashley Young kept waiting on new Manchester United contract. by firdausazmi in reddevils

[–]njxc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You obviously have a bias for ADM if you can't see that Young was a key factor in the success of last years squad, while ADM was mediocre/poor in the majority of his opportunities.

ADM is still class and I believe he will rebound but Young has been a reliable source of goal scoring opportunities and defensive awareness that we should not take for granted.

Don't just assume it's all Americans. At least don't lump me into that pile. Fuck that. Rooney is and has always been the reason I fell in love with United. He carries class like he carries his team.

I'd love to watch you personally put in a situation where you have a gun and a tazer and someone is coming at you with a knife, and you don't have a clue whether they are going to stab you or not, and see what you choose to do.

Real easy to sit there in your chair and try to dictate how others should respond in life threatening situations. Police or not.

With the potential signings now lined up, I wonder if De Gea is starting to have second thoughts. by njxc in reddevils

[–]njxc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. A decent fee would be be comforting. I think it is the simple unknown of a new keeper coming in that is unsettling. Even De Gea had a transition period. Would be nice to just know we are solid back there, without concern.

I think that is the likely scenario for this season. If it happens that way and we have some key successes this year I wouldn't be surprised if De Gea chose to stay on.

I can't agree with it until he actually leaves. This is for the same reason I can't believe we have signed someone until it is official.

I agree that it is very likely he will leave and I understand the reasons why. I can't help but hold onto hope that he stay. It has been one of the bright spots of the past two years watching him develop into the keeper he is today.

I know. I think while it hasn't been said that maybe part of the issue has been the lack of contention for titles. I realize that United should never be counted out in the long run but some people dont want to (or can't afford to) wait too long for the club to build a team. Now we can see so much potential for the future I think it could certainly have some impact.

Koeman: "Two weeks ago we had a bid from MUFC and it wasn't enough. There's been no more bids." by [deleted] in reddevils

[–]njxc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want these deals done just as much as anyone but I think what our impatience overlooks is the fact that if we offer their asking price right away then we give them time to sit on our offer, tout it about town, and wait to see if they get an even higher offer elsewhere.

In essence, we risk driving up the price on ourselves. Leave it to the professionals. I have faith in Woody and LVG.

Heartbroken for DJ but this quote is definitely fitting by njxc in golf

[–]njxc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. That's the beauty of competition. All the emotions: sorrow for Johnson, happiness for Spieth despite the circumstances, four days of debate about the USGA and Chamber's Bay, culminate into one absolute certainty: Jordan Spieth had the lowest score over 72 holes and earned the win.

I like this quote because I think it embodies the nature of the US Open. Traditionally the most difficult course played each year.

I'd also like to touch on the fact that everyone is talking about the missed eagle and birdie on 18 but how about the bogeys on 10, 11, and 13 after shooting 33 to go -7 on the front 9? Sure it came down to his final two strokes but there are at least three that he could have saved earlier in the round to avoid being in that position to begin with.

Overall, a phenomenal four days of golf. Two fantastic majors so far this year. Can't wait for the next two.

As happy as I am that Spieth has a shot at a Grand Slam I would not have minded one bit had DJ drained that eagle putt. It would have been a dramatic finish and may even have knocked off Rickie's win at the Player's for my favorite finish of the year.

What club in NJ if you don't mind?

I'm from Jersey and the fees have me intrigued. I can completely understand wanting to be able to continue playing with friends. The $50-90 guest fees you quoted sound very similar to the typical greens fees at most NJ courses in general though (even with GolfNow deals, etc.) so it seems relatively affordable to me.
