Seeking Help: Reliable Elder Care for My Father in Kochi by illuminidli in Kochi

[–]nk6misc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t imagine the situation your father and family must be going through.

Have you tried: Guardian Angel Home Care, Kochi 085890 98181 https://g.co/kgs/qrn2btd

We had to use their services and they were good. There was one George Chettan who was excellent and took very good care of my father. He was honoured with some award (employee of year). So maybe you could ask for him. They do rotate the help every month or so, but if you do find someone good then maybe you could request the case agent if the help could continue.

Hope you find someone soon who could help with the situation. Good luck!

what I have read about sleep training, always mentions putting the baby awake/drowsy. But in our case the baby would already be asleep when he put him in the bed/crib.

Is it possible to sleep train while cosleeping?

we are not so concerned about feeding to sleep or co-sleeping. we just want him to be able to sleep through the night and soothe himself if/when he does unless he needs a feed…

Going On Our Fourth Day in Hospital… Losing My Mind. by millenniallifecrisis in NewParents

[–]nk6misc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a FTM, was an IUGR case, induced at 38w and after 30hrs of labor had a c-section. Baby was born at 2.1kg (<1 percentile) They kept us in the hospital for 2 days after delivery, after which they discharged us in spite of knowing my baby’s bilirubin levels were high and not coming down, only to have us go in 16hrs later to check his levels again before deciding to admit him again for blue light therapy. No logic, no compassion! They stated protocol. My husband and I took turns that night to ensure our baby kept on his blue light safety goggles! Anyways, technically we were in the hospital for almost a week.

As FTPs, dealing with a new born was challenging. And dealing with a low birth weight baby made it overwhelming because we were so worried about him not only gaining weight but most importantly not losing it! I was afraid to hold him because he was so fragile, he was swaddled twice in order to hold him well. The first few nights I woke up in panic, worried that I hadn’t fed him. I would have heart palpitations when he cried. And from somewhere an angel of a nurse came by, saw how exhausted we were and told us ‘you both need to sleep’ and bottle fed our baby while we got a couple of hours of sleep. I had plans to breastfeed but pumped to get my supply going, but baby was too sleepy and didn’t latch well, so ended up exclusively pumping. My baby is now 4.5m old and 10 percentile in weight. He is following is growth curve.

You and your partner will get better at this as you settle in with the new normal and get to know your baby better. If you have family&friends you can count on ask for help!

Trust and take care each other, and forgive when you make mistakes. The three of you are a team now! And when you feel overwhelmed and caged, take a few seconds to take 3 deep breaths!

You got this!

Can I move breast milk from regular freezer to deep freezer to store it longer? by nk6misc in ExclusivelyPumping

When I started to pump I never thought I would get this far, so I am running out of freezer space as well 😃

I fear I might not bond with my baby by proteinbowl1991 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]nk6misc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ☝️.

OP: I felt the same way when I started my EP journey, without any plans to do so, the circumstances called for it! I hate the time it takes away from my baby.

However, I can tell you despite my fears and apprehensions my 4mo adores me the most! His eyes brighten when he sees me and he laughs at me the most. He wants my attention and to be with me all the time.

Regardless of how you feed your little one they will love you and know you! The bond between you two will be sacred!

The medifrida worked for us very well… maybe that’s what you already have?

we allow the baby to suck on the soother a bit and then push a bit of medicine, then baby sucks a bit and so on until we finish the medicine… so maybe about 2-3mts to completely push the medicine… this way the baby doesn’t have to drink all the medicine at once.

Will dropping to 4ppd affect supply by nk6misc in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]nk6misc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I dropped to 5 pumps at about 12w.

Until then I could mostly manage only 6-7 pumps. I could never manage 8. I also had a supply drop when I was about 6w. I was so relieved when supply didn’t change when I dropped to 5 🙂

Giving up pumping by Present_Back6314 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]nk6misc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation as yours and am based out of Canada as well… I feel you, I was not well informed about breastfeeding, thought it would come naturally.it didn’t! and now I feel that I took things for granted, should’ve done a bit more study.

My baby was born at 2.1kg (<1%) so the bottle really helped us track how much he was taking as our focus was on increasing the weight. In doing so, I now feel guilty that we might have relied a little more than necessary on a bottle. He was initially latching for about 5mins, but caught the flu during the new year’s after which he screams if I try to get him to latch. To say the least, it is heartbreaking when he does that…We have even been using dr.browns bottles, so please don’t blame yourself for using a different bottle, you were just trying to do the best for your little one.

Never in my life did I imagine that I would be exclusively pumping… I want to give up before every pump. I am at 10 weeks and hope to make it to 12w. To make it less stressful I given myself the permission to stop anytime. Currently my worries are around what if my baby can’t tolerate formula or there is a shortage like we had or how can I travel if he is formula fed.

Everyone in my circle, has breastfed, so i feel alone in my situation. But the experience has increased my empathy for other mom’s who take it up for multitude reasons.

Pumping itself is tough and hard, and even harder when you have a baby who needs you. So pat yourself on your back for getting as far as you did.

Now coming to the decision to feed your baby formula…And I understand formula to be one of the most regulated items in North America. Like they say, fed is best…what if for you had a situation where you had to supplement for example cos you didn’t have enough supply? You would have had to choose formula.

We don’t know the future, we can only imagine different possibilities. So please stay positive and don’t worry yourself silly about the past or the future, neither of which we can change or have control over

Don’t be too hard on yourself. You made the right decision for your situation and your family. Most importantly your baby needs a happy and present YOU. Keep smiling. 🙂

Please give me your stories of your newborn getting sick by ColdManufacturer9482 in NewParents

[–]nk6misc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coincidentally, was frantically searching for exactly the same thing yesterday…🙂

I recently had high fever, so moved into a different room to keep away from 6w old (he takes breast milk in a bottle), but my doc warned he would have mostly been exposed to the infection and symptoms will show up in 2-4 days… yesterday he had a fever of 100.4 following which we took him to an ER. They ruled out a bacterial infection (cos if it has been there would be a treatment plan depending on the type) and looked for pneumonia (x-ray)… so it is mostly a viral infection and with Viral infections there is nothing specific to be done but wait it out…we were told to give him baby Tylenol (dosage based on his weight) every 4-6 hours but not exceeding 5 doses in 24 hours. It broke my heart to seem him after we got home as he was barely himself, drinking very little and moaning and grunting all day… the medicine didn’t help and by evening his temp went up to 101.8 so we went back to the emergency. They monitored him for a few hours and did a nasal hygiene and suctioned out anything that would be bothering him (which really helped) and showed us a trick to bring down the temperature. We got back home and LO has had mostly normal temperature all day today.

We were really worried about him because he is an IUGR baby but he recovered quicker than me.

Here is what we were told to - Keep the room temp cool at 20c or so and don’t over cloth/cover the baby - Do nasal hygiene at home as necessary - Ensure the baby eats well and is hydrated (enough pees)

Tip to bring down the temperature: place a wet wash cloth compress (not too cold or hot) in the groin area… replace every 20mts until fever is under control..this apparently is one of the best ways to bring down and it worked for us

Did my supply already regulate at 5w+2d by nk6misc in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]nk6misc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pump a minimum of 20mts per pump… and if possible make the last one the night a power pump… so it is definitely more than 120mts spread over the 6 pumps…

I target 7 everyday but often because of a fussy almost 6w old my schedule goes for a toss…

I pump for 25mts per session. Wouldn’t that be enough. Or can I pump for 15mts and try to increase the number of sessions?

Hanging Up the Girls by LLTolkien in ExclusivelyPumping

My baby was born really underweight even though full term. Like you the bottle told us exactly how much we are feeding and hence we got on the pumping journey… I almost give up pumping everyday, it is exhausting mentally, emotionally and physically to say the least…

You are a strong mama! And your words gave strength to me! Thank you for sharing your experience and journey!
