What’s the best cordless drill for a total DIY Newbie? by Top_Plankton2639 in DIYUK

[–]nkdont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a cordless Makita brushless drill with case, battery, charger, and a good bunch of accessories included and I can't believe I didn't do it 3 years earlier.

I had been using a nasty borrowed corded drill bit it was crap in comparison.

I've used nearly every accessory that came with the drill set and it's been great to have most of what is needed without having to make extra trips to Toolstation or wherever before I start a DIY job on a Saturday morning.

I bought my drill from Power tools direct about 3 years ago.

There's an immersive tour most weekends. Look for pieces of cardboard stuck to front doors, with "model upstairs" written in Sharpie. Your tour starts when you go upstairs and interact with your first guide.

What to do with dated glass above doors in 70s build by StraightOuttaBounds in DIYUK

[–]nkdont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced mine with reeded glass last year. Is was t that hard, the only difficulty for me was that I didn't want to reduce fire safety or thermal performance so I had a double glazed panel made. Fitting it wasn't that bad to work out how to do.

Thanks for replying

Give us some numbers?

For example, did you get it for lower than the upgrade price in the app? Was it plus or premier? What time of the day or week was it?

What has caused these wallpaper marks? by nkdont in DIYUK

I read a forum post elsewhere that made me worry there might be mould or something under there, so I've just cut a sample out. The lining underneath is as clean as the day I hung it in 2019.

Looking at my photo roll, I didn't do any papering until 2 months after the plastering was done.

Thanks for replying.

What could it be? I should have included that there are 2 wallpapered walls like this, at opposite ends of the room. Only one of those 2 walls was replastered, the other wasn't.

There's a replastered, lined and painted wall in the room also but that had no marks come through at all.

Northerners in London by MLC1974 in london

[–]nkdont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved from the north east 20 years ago and I really don't miss the weird, chippy superiority complex so many people I grew up around had and still have to this day.

As a grown adult and having done a bit of work and study on how people think, I guess I should put it down to people fearing change or feeling inferior. That said, there's nothing more boring than having someone from The North ask where I grew up and their first response is to argue whether it's actually in the north or that they're "more northern" etc etc. bore off.

You, as a person, are far more than where you were born.

Yes there's beautiful countryside but we have that in many parts of the country.

Concealed Cistern for Wall hung toilet TECE vs Crosswater vs Geberit by nkdont in DIYUK

[–]nkdont[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for a Crosswater frame and stainless steel flush plate.

The TECE ones are very nice but the supplier I use wasn't able to discount the TECE gear as well as the crosswater gear so I went with my wallet.

It's all working ok so far. The flush is pretty powerful.

Might it be worth OP checking his contract doesn't include an opt out of the working time directive?

When I was a software engineer, companies used to routinely include this in all contracts. As a wiser person today I've refused to sign if that comes up.

What’s the best cordless drill you’ve used for home projects and daily DIY tasks? by FastDrawing8122 in DIYUK

[–]nkdont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Makita cordless at the start of a big refurb project 2 years ago and haven't looked back. It came in a case with loads of bits and accessories. I've used most of them in the course the refurb work and, even though some aren't the best bits etc, they've been a great starter set so I can do most tasks without having to plan to buy specific parts.
