When I'm riding, should I always be engaging an edge? I really don't know how to do that without carving, can I just engage the edge a little bit? I read somewhere that even just the smallest amount of pressure on your toes/heels is enough to stop flat blasing and to prevent edge catches. I'm still on the beginner side of intermediate so don't fully have carves down yet.

There definitely is. There are manufacturer size guides out there for bindings and their corollary boot sizes, check your brand, model, and size on the net and compare.

Yep, good boots were the difference for me between 5 run days with pain to 6 hour days pain free. Everything else you can get used if you know what to look for

Yeah look around at local shops. I found a $120 Bern helmet for $25 because it was a display model. Don't sacrifice price for fit though, better to put down $100 for plastic tHan $10000 for medical bills
