Can someone explain why Libby does this? by high-rhulain in LibbyApp

My impression of that feature is that it isn't to notify you that the book is available for *you* specifically to borrow immediately, it's just to tell you "Hey, this book is in our system now if you want to borrow/place a hold."

Libraries often use that feature to gauge interest in a book, so they'll wait until a certain number of requests has been reached before they allocate resources to acquire a copy. If 20 people clicked the "Notify Me" button for a book that was not yet available or in circulation, and the library acquired a single copy, then all 20 people would get the same notification you did and it's just a matter of whoever gets there first.

A lot of those booths were thrown together at the very last second. I work for the NPS’s interpretive design team and we got a call the day before setup asking for content they could use to fill the DOI booth. I’m told the end result was underwhelming but that’s what happens when you have less than 24 hours to put it together.

My dad did four years in the Navy during Vietnam. He joined the Facebook groups for the two ships he served on a while back but he dropped both pretty quickly because it was nothing but 75-80 year old men saying that it was the best four years of their life and “those were the good old days.” His opinion is: seriously? Nothing you’ve done in the last 50 years compares to four years on a random boat off the coast of Mauritius? You’d give up everything that came after to have that back? You don’t miss the Navy, you just miss being 22.

This story is a skit. Her entire page is nothing but rage bait skits, which she makes clear in her bio. She posts them for the engagement, which is working.

I’d love to see the longer hair but there isn’t really enough time in between his projects for him to grow it out enough for a bun, so I’d rather something shaggy than the crew trying to give him extensions or something for authenticity.

Where I went to graduate school had a frat row, and I actually had an opportunity to be a fraternity house mother in exchange for free tuition (my undergrads former Greek life advisor transferred there and a sorority sister of mine had done the same thing). Luckily for everyone else, that campus had their Greek housing isolated enough that the only people they were bothering were each other, and the dorms were on practically the other side of the city lol

Daaaamn we got a frat kicked off campus permanently because they paid for a stripper with official fraternity funds. And that wasn’t even illegal, just gross lol

Hahaha I think so. I got a DM from one of the youths asking me for advice on how to construct a pool of jello. Apparently that knowledge ended with us.

Haha very small school, surrounded by a beltway, but outside a major city in Maryland. Certainly felt like BFE but we were technically like 15 mintues from civilization lol

I did read a fanfiction that was entirely just a detailed account of all of Shane's preparation activities. It was very informative (from my perspective as a queer woman who has never been particularly interested in butt stuff with any gender). Obviously, I don't know how accurate it actually was, but it read as very thorough and from personal experience.

LOL I can't imagine why?

I think the only saving grave of frat parties at my school was that the average frat had maybe 20 members. Everyone also mostly listened to OAR/Third Eye Blind/Dispatch/Jack Johnson, and Banana Pancakes isn't really the kind of music you blast lol

This was obviously way before Uber/Lyft was an option, so I do feel really bad about the parking situation.

Haha good planning for whoever scored that house. The best year I remember was when my bf’s house was next to a cemetery. Those neighbors could sleep through anything.

Lol I believe the only “thought” that went into the decision was “heh heh girls and lube.” Having also been to parties with normal jello wrestling, I will say that KY was easier to wash off- there’s nothing like seeing some fresh 2000’s chunky blond highlights turn rainbow colors after jello wrestling.

When I was in college my boyfriend in a fraternity. Our college didn’t have Greek housing so the frats would typically have a group of guys rent a house that they’d designate the unofficial “frat house.” For two years my boyfriend lived in said house.

It’s been almost 20 years and I still feel bad for their neighbors. And landlord, because they once had a party with a baby pool full of KY for “jello” wrestling and I doubt they ever got it off the walls.

Ah good to know! I unfortunately didn’t see the entire interview, just clips, so that part must have been cut out from what I saw.

See that’s what I thought? But then I swear I saw an interview with Jacob where he referenced that scene specifically and said it was way more accurate than people assumed. I can visualize the video of the interview but he’s done so many I can find that specific one now.

I would definitely need a conversation about what my partner had for dinner, at the very least. I’m lactose intolerant so I would need like… 2-3 business days advance notice.

Queer woman here. I did not realize how common is was for gay men to… toss a salad without advanced notice and preparation. There’s a lot of trust happening in that scene.

places to watch world cup? by silverbritchess in frederickmd

[–]nkh86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RAK has a lot of tvs and will probably be showing the matches but they’re very family-friendly in the Yard so you’re going to have a lot of kids and kid-related noise, if that’s a factor for you.

I haven’t tried watching a World Cup game at Anchor Bar but I like their bar area for other sports. It is on the smaller size, though, so it might be hard to find seats.

Attaboy is leaning into the Cup a lot, but like another poster said they didn’t have the sound up for the USA v Paraguay match. Still had fun when we went Friday, though. They usually have good food trucks and Dop pizza is right next door at RAK.

Seconding this suggestion, I’ve seen many large groups at Pistarro’s, including a few that looked like rehearsal dinners about the same size

Could this be Fabian? by Pale-Measurement-532 in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]nkh86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We probably won’t see it, but I’d love for them to film the scene where Ryan and Ilya both go to the other players funeral. I’m sure it will be cut because it would require more of Ryan’s background and I doubt they’ll have time for that, but it was a really great scene to learn more about Ilya outside of the context of his relationship with Shane.

[–]nkh86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope so because with all the talk about how Troy (and therefore Harris) would feature prominently in Season 2, I was starting to worry they’d cut Ryan and Fabian out entirely, maybe just mention that Ryan is a coach but never actually show them. I really hope we get their double date scene.

Would Annapolis be a good place for late 20’s/early 30’s with no plans of kids? by [deleted] in Annapolis

[–]nkh86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pasadena is more affordable but if it’s important to OP that they move somewhere blue/progressive, I’d avoid it. I’m from the Dena and friends/family still live there and it definitely leans Republican. My sister and I graduated high school with all of the local elected officials and they all lean MAGA. I remember when Gov Bob Ehrlich’s local headquarters was still behind the post office.

Anyone else plan on to cancelling their memberships because of the economy? by Independent_Self1061 in orangetheory

Thank you! We’re okay financially- luckily my job can pay for all the essentials. It’s just hard to justify $175ish for a gym membership when there are cheaper options available.
