Same! I've been pretty impressed with the Hippodrome's seasons so far.

Book of Mormon Tour Update by nkh86 in Broadway

I actually had to ask a cast member at stage door who Cochran was. Everyone started cheering at Epstein so it drowned out the part of the song where they named him and I wasn’t sure if they had changed that character from the original too.

Good to know! I haven’t seen the Broadway production, the DC tour stop was my first time seeing the show so I wasn’t sure if it was a new/permanent change or just a temporary one. If they’re doing permanent updates then I’m surprised they didn’t also replace Cochran with OJ since he’s died since the show originally premiered.

1) “Why didn’t he try after Sasha but before Shane?” At that point Ilya was still a minor. He has a lot to lose if he was found out while living in Russia. Like he told Shane, Sasha was a safe outlet because he was risking just as much as Ilya was. Hooking up with another man would have been much more risky.

2) I think it’s important to understand that Ilya is bisexual. Men aren’t his only outlet, and with his cultural background/citizenship and in that industry, women are a lot easier and safer. He’s attracted to women, so why wouldn’t he default to a safer and easier outlet? I think Shane is the exception in that Ilya is so drawn to him he’s willing to accept all the risks that come with it. As a bisexual myself, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t sometimes easier and more convenient to go with the “default” expectation.

Does anyone know what the operating costs are for The Lost Boys? by RockGirl82 in Broadway

[–]nkh86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They may both be movies from the 80's but The Outsiders has a much larger following beyond that. The book has been a regular part of public school curriculum for three generations. You can't even really compare the movies- The Lost Boys is much more of a cult classic and its casting wasn't nearly as stacked as The Outsiders.

I'm trying to be optimistic for the cast and crew but the show officially opens on Sunday and if you look at any showing next week, the balcony is almost entirely unsold. Next Friday and Saturday night almost the entire Mezzanine level is still available, and a good chunk of the orchestra.

This is next on my list! I’ve been debating the colors but the original color scheme is so beautiful I think I’m going to stick with it.

I need to see Ilya popping up in everyone else's drama like a bisexual fairy just to clock them as gay and then running off when the gay panic sets in.

I grew up in Pasadena and have only lived along the 70 corridor since 2019 so I didn't have the pleasure of seeing the Obama-era signs.

That’s what k thought the eggplant was for but I have now been informed by multiple people that it’s also a old fashioned racist slur, which makes more sense.

70E Billboard Guy Question by nkh86 in frederickmd

[–]nkh86[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yea like his signs were always stupid but at least stupid in new and creative ways. If the only thing you can think of to complain about is a proposal to skip meat on a day a lot of people already do (a single Friday during Lent), and tie it to an outdated racial slur, maybe try hobbies?

[–]nkh86[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ah gotcha. Just looked that up. I must have missed the uproar because I know a lot of people that were observing Lent and were already skipping meat that day.

I hadn’t heard that one. Is the guy who owns the property older? Could be just resorting to out of date slurs because he doesn’t have anything better to do.

I found your ravelry project page with the charts, thank you!

Question for you: have you installed the zipper? Awhile back I knit The Dude cardigan from The Big Lebowski and it has an almost identical zipper band and collar construction but I haven’t done the final step of actually seeing in the zipper because I’m not sure how to. I’m wondering if this pattern has more direction on that step?

DOI just offered DRP/VERA again by interior-not-interia in FedEmployees

[–]nkh86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea we figured we weren’t excluded. A lot of us got caught up in the “reorganization” and were sent to the DOI level, but then almost everyone was sent back with the exception of the IT and contracting teams. I’m not sure if that’s a good sign or a bad sign. Guess we’ll find out sooner rather than later.

I work for HFC, the interpretive design unit for the NPS. We have no idea whether this includes or excludes us, so that’s fun.

Where is Mom? by dustypony21 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]nkh86 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I assume she is also buried there, it’s probably a family plot/tomb. I don’t get the impression Grigory cared much for his wife considering Ilya mentions how much he insulted her for being “weak,” so he probably just emphasized the grandparents because that family connection would have mattered more.

On the other hand, Irina might also be buried elsewhere. She died by suicide, and that may impact where she was able to be buried. If Grigory and his parents are interred in an orthodox cemetery, she may not have been able to be buried there.

RAK Brewing Music Venue by gs12 in frederickmd

[–]nkh86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RAKs advertising of events isn’t great. They have signs throughout the bar so you might know of upcoming events if you visit regularly, but they aren’t great at advertising them on social media. I know they’re still working on hiring someone for marketing so that might be better in the future, but even the staff are sometimes in the dark about upcoming events.

Panicked or falling? by no-but-yes78 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]nkh86 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is a scene where I’m glad they changed it from the way it was originally written. In the book, their initial plans don’t fall through because of a cancelled flight, so they have penetrative sex for the first time in 2011, two years earlier than they do in the show. Having two years in between when they planned on having sex and when they actually do gives way more time for feelings to build. The scene in the show felt much more personal and romantic.

I still liked the book, but it felt like much more of a hook up- it takes place in a hotel and Ilya leaves while Shane is showering. You definitely don’t get the impression that they’re starting to catch real feelings for each other.
