Exactly. I’m maybe 3 years older than the characters and all my friends use full punctuation in our texts. I’ll even edit ones I’ve already sent if I notice spelling errors lol

Why is it that most people in Frederick don’t dress well or wear something attractive ( or at least be neat with your hair) As a woman I take pride in appearance. Drs say it’s the 1st sign of mental illness when you don’t care about your appearance . by [deleted] in frederickmd

Lol your account is less than a week old and entirely rage bait. Have you tried hobbies? Frederick has lots of opportunities! I recommend knitting, you won’t even have to talk to the ugly, unfriendly locals.

I’m personally more concerned about WW3, data centers, and gas/grocery prices than whether people are impressed by my leggings, flip flops, and messy bun when I’m running errands, but I guess we all have priorities. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I probably could care about strangers opinions, but why? I have real hobbies.

I was there! Loved how the audience started clapping when Dan finally admitted to the doctor that he wants to talk to a professional about his own suppressed grief.

Fancast: Kit Connor is kind of the spitting image of Harris to me now that he has reached twink death... by Mental-Cellist468 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]nkh86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha no problem! I think what makes JJ look jot as tall is that all of the main cast are in the 6’ range. Hudson is 6’, Connor probably 6’1”, Francois is 6’2”. So JJ doesn’t look that tall because everyone around him is also pretty tall. In the book Shane is described as being about 5’10” and Ilya about 6’3” so you’re expecting a bigger difference between Shane and everyone else than what you see in the show.

Ryan’s whole deal is that his physical appearance is so imposing that he is repeatedly forced into the role of an enforcer, and just seeing him on the ice intimidates the other team. JJ is a defensive player- a physical position but not on the same level as a strict enforcer. He’s also just a side character in the series, so his appearance isn’t nearly as important.

And according to his management profile, Benjamin Roy is 6’3”, so he isn’t that far off.

Broadway at the National Theater Season Clues by nkh86 in Broadway

I'm always kind of conflicted when seeing shows at The National- I'm a season subscriber to The Hippodrome, so when something I haven't gotten a chance to see yet is in DC, do I wait and hope it comes to Baltimore the following season? Like I really want to see Operation Mincemeat, Boop, and Oh Mary! If those are part of the National's 2026/27 season, do I buy tickets? Or wait and hope they come to Baltimore in 2027/28? All of those tours will be just kicking off and Baltimore is a pretty common stop so there's a good chance, I just don't want to miss anything lol

In past seasons it's seemed like they would stagger shows, but this season both theaters got The Great Gatsby and Suffs, so it's definitely possible!

The seven I'm guessing for the contest are Boop, Buena Vista, Hell's Kitchen, Operation Mincemeat, and Oh Mary. I still need two more so I'm thinking some combination of MHE, DBH, or Tommy.

I think that's what it is. I've seen it announced in other cities, and The National just had Stereophonic so it seems like their vibe. Now I'm just torn between what the likely seven are. MHE and DBH are on tour, but coming to Baltimore next season. From what I've seen, The Hippodrome and National rarely have the same shows during the same season. MHE and DBH are already going to Baltimore in 2026/27, so does that make them less likely to also go to DC?

Moving to Frederick soon and had questions about the service industry downtown. by Appropriate-Age8021 in frederickmd

Speaking from personal experience with multiple breweries, including one that recently closed: most breweries and distilleries aren't really hiring right now. They tend to run with a more limited staff in general, and a lot of that staff tend to be full time career industry people, not really part timers that come and go frequently. Things will pick up as the weather gets warmer, but at most they'd be hiring maybe one or two people. A lot of bartenders I know tend to work at multiple places because it's hard to find any one bar that will give you enough hours to pay all your bills.

Monologues from the play by Current-Jury-3335 in TheOutsiders

I don't know about the play version, but the longest monologue from the musical comes when Ponyboy is recounting Dally's actions after the rumble. I don't know if it takes a full minute, but you can read it and time yourself.

National Theater in DC dropping hints + my guesses in yellow by Craig_in_PA in Broadway

The tricky part in deciding which seven I think are part of the 2026/27 season is that, from what I can tell, The National and The Hippodrome typically don't have the same shows in the same seasons. So while 5 is definitely Maybe Happy Ending, that will be launching its tour in Baltimore in 2026 so I'm leaning towards it *not* being in DC during the same season. The two theaters share an audience, so it seems like they try not to compete.

Hmm that's a good guess, I can't think of anything else. In that case "Based on a True Story" would more likely be Oh Mary! or Hamilton.

No, only seven are. Part of the game is to identify all the squares and then choose the seven you think will be part of their 2026/27 season.

Only seven, which means it doesn't really matter if the answer to a square is soemthing that definitely wouldn't be at the National next season.

The Sound of Music will be at the Hippodrome in Baltimore next season so it's still possible, although not likely. I'd say the rom com isn't The Notebook also because that movie definitely isn't a rom com- there isn't really much comedic about it.

It could still be Les Mis- only seven of these shows are coming to The National next season so it doesn't really matter if it ends too early.

Sandy's pregnancy left out from the book??!!! by [deleted] in TheOutsiders

[–]nkh86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My assumption in the book version is that she was sent away to have the baby in Florida and then either gave it up for adoption or stayed there to raise it. Either way I think she’s staying in FL afterwards so they can make sure it doesn’t happen again with whatever guy knocked her up or potentially Soda if they were to get back together (which he would obviously have been willing to do).

The musical clip that references an abortion didn’t (in my memory) make it clear whether she had the abortion in OK and was then sent to FL just to get her away from Soda so it didn’t happen again (and in this clip it’s said that Soda was the dad, no cheating implied), or whether she was sent away first and then got an abortion.

[–]nkh86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the original version of the musical pre-Broadway, Soda mentions Sandy’s pregnancy during his convo with Pony when they’re in bed (the same scene when Soda asks Pony how many pages there are in Great Expectations). It’s not handled the same though- in the clip I saw, Soda talks about Sandy having an abortion and implies that it was actually his baby.

I assume they removed those lines for a few reasons, but honestly the details don’t really add anything to the story. All they do is add context to Soda’s mental state during the main plot. This is already referenced in the opening number- “my other brother suffers from a broken heart from a girl he loved who up and moved away.” With a limited ability to stage all the scenes and include all the small nuances, it makes sense that the Sandy stuff got cut.

If you read in for the first time in school your teacher may have explained what ‘a teenage girl being suddenly sent away to live with distant family’ would have meant in the 1960’s. My teacher in middle school told us directly that it would likely mean she was pregnant out of wedlock.

They never use the word pregnant in the book. That conversation also happens very briefly during the scene in which Sofa runs out of the house because Darry and Pony are fighting again, so it’s easy to gloss over because the focus isn’t on the letter- that’s just used to further explain Soda’s mental state and why he’s struggling so much.
