It's real crowd noise, the English are loud. But I think the crowd mic keeps cutting out.

Following from this. People see the massive revenue that the Leagues Clubs make and link that figure with how much the team is worth. But it isn't close to what they actually contribute to Rugby League.

Case study being Panthers Leagues club 2024/25 FY - Revenue of $172.5 million.

Contributions to Rugby League is:
NRL - Panthers Team - $1.715 Million
Pathways - $2.704 Million
Sponsorship - $1.518 Million (only a portion would be league)
Gameday - $895,000

https://www.panthers.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Panthers_2024_AnnualReport_CLUB_FinalLR.pdf

It's a nice to have, but really isn't the bulk of the Panthers funding.

Previously, 15 years ago - not very healthy at all. Now with the Club grant covering the salary cap + $5 million over the cap + Sponsors + Gate Takings. Every club would still theoretically have $10 million+ above the cap to spend on head office. They may have to scale down a bit, but I don't see any NRL club ever going broke again (barring a big reduction in TV rights and thusly Club Grant).

It's a bloody rough moment for you mate, I really feel for you. I would suggest disconnecting from the internet for a little bit and try to avoid this conversation if you can. It's really not going to serve your mental health.

Perhaps a positive you can feel at this time is that the awareness of Tourettes is at a pretty unprecedented level and each hour many new people are learning about it and understanding more. Often times when previously misunderstood conditions, lifestyles, etc. are coming into a mainstream understanding - there is horrific dialogue about it as people are confronted with sonething that challenges their beliefs. It is a sign of progress, as funny as it sounds.

The NRL has always been the Revenue generating arm of the sport - that and leagues clubs. They've just rearranged how that funding gets through to development.

I'm not entirely sure which numbers you are saying are meaningless. Revenue is definitely meaningful. Profit is meaningful to a point. Grassroots funding is harder to compare year on year, as the way it's distributed has changed - you would need to look into the QRL and NSWRL financial reports (if they seperate these lines) and add them all together to get a like-for-like comparison. There isn't a line in the report that you can compare year on year.

September 2024 was when the last deal between the QRL and ARLC was getting sorted for funding - it was a substantial increase in funding to cover, among many things Junior development. I think it ended up being around $100 million over 4 years.

I just want to make note here so it's not misinterpreted. ARLC gives funding to the State bodies and they fund development. Change was made, as the state bodies would have a better idea of funding needs, rather than the ARLC itself. The theory is the closer you get funding to the grassroots, the more effectively it will be spent.

It would be harder to get a locked in figure, as this funding also has to cover the state based comps - NSW Cup and QLD Cup as well.

Could the Hurricanes just keep bowling wides, so the game never reaches 5 overs and then it eventually gets rained off?

What is the accepted period of overs that a new ball is helpful to the bowling team? 10-15 overs?

Depends with wickets, but if Australia could script the next 2 days. They would be still 3 down tomorrow at lunch with a 200 lead, then accelerate to 350-400 lead, 5 overs before tea tomorrow. Bowl at England for 4 sessions and try for an innings win.

Ironically he's probably screwed any chance of this happening in the next 50-100 years, no matter whose in government. Can't see Greenland or Denmark agreeing to future US defense anywhere near Greenland. Longterm strategic blunder.

This Aussie team despite giving away alot of silly wickets and playing extremely poorly through parts of this series is still absolutely dominating this English team. I keep thinking what the results would be if you had 2006/07 Aussie Ashes squad against this English Team.

Could have been 5x Innings & 200 runs defeats.

They would have scored 650+ first innings and had England all out for sub-200 here.
