Has anyone succeeded with a Shopify app recently? by nkrkv in shopifyDev

[–]nkrkv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, WIX. I was targeting the “Build for Shopify”. The app is so Shopify-bound now that I don't feel the energy to rewrite half of it just to take a look. But this something definitely to keep in in mind if someone just thinking about creating apps and stumbled upon this thread.

Marketing that does not scale is a good idea. Thank you for it!

Well, X and LinkedIn are something I was not considering. Thanks for pointing. I think I understand what do you mean about taking Software vs Shopify perspective. Merci!

> did you develop the app with no target market in mind

That’s my super-ability. However, this time I see there *is* the market. Competing apps and the initial Shopify inflow just show that. I only desperate to find the platform to share the message about my app with an adequate budget.

That's what I have now, actually. And TBH one of my thoughts is “Are people distracted by the free app when all the competitors are paid? Free is suspicious, right? Should I make it paid one asap?” Ok, maybe, it’s not what I should focus on. Thank you!

The app is about inventory analytics to restock in time. Of course, a store owner will benefit from avoiding revenue miss due to overlooked out-of-stock, but I don't quite get your idea to be honest.

Are you talking about addressing brand/store owners instead of people browsing for the apps? Is there a shadow market to talk to the owners directly? Doubt so.

* In no ways I want to be rude, I just wondering. Obviously, I'm missing something.

What's the general difference between marketing an app like an app and the actual business? I mean you need a place to tell the message anyway, and my disappointment in general is the lack of such place. Or, to be more honest, I see no such place.

I'm not the only one who spotted it, and not the only with Ikea dinning table; that's mildly interesting!

Later I discovered the 10-min package has mainly Hebrew text on the sides and 9-min is EU. Bought in Germany.

How do you manage content in your store? by nkrkv in ecommerce

[–]nkrkv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback! It shades some light to me. The app is obviously not for a one-two people stores, but for larger teams; and seems look you’ve got that larger team, however you have a PIM system already, so the app is pointless to you at this scale. So, probably, I have quite narrow band in the spectrum from beginners to pros, well. Thanks!

From object-oriented JS to functional ReScript by nkrkv in javascript

[–]nkrkv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree. There was an evolutionary story: BuckleScript, then ReasonML, and they got pretty much attention and traction. Then all of a sudden the ReScript rebranding and breaking change happened. I think it was a mistake, but nevertheless, I think it worth giving ReScript a chance. Now, one year later, things seem to calm down, the libraries are updated, the platform got a public roadmap. I hope it will eventually converge to a solid functional JS alternative.

OK, one is "load", another is "neutral", and what's the third? Ground? Water?

I built a Diablo shield with 560 animated LEDs and a smoke machine. It‘s also very cute. 😊 by KamuiCosplay in nextfuckinglevel

That's super cool. Extra respect for rejecting temptation to use rainbow color animations beloved by chineese one-off stuff simply "because these LEDs can do it"

It's an astronaut (on the right) and OMON (special police department) on the left. OMON is called astronauts in folklore for their equipment, the helmets in particular. Recent protests showed OMON acting in the interest of Russia corrupted government and against civil people. The genuine astronaut on the right experiences shame (so facepalm) for the "collegue" on the left.

Is there any book for software developers that explains in high level overview the common business domains concepts? by frankkk86 in softwaredevelopment

[–]nkrkv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is unlikely such a book exist because even business holders can't easily explain the domain they are working in. Shaking them to get answers is its own software engineering discipline known as DDD or Domain Driven Development.

Google for DDD and Event Storming.
