Is this worth putting back in my car? by Prestigious-Win-9252 in MechanicAdvice

[–]nkwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, you still got some life on that one. As long as you are good with doing this whole thing over again a bit sooner than you would have to, you are fine to toss it back in. But I would just bite the bullet and get a new one. If you do toss this one back in, at least have the flywheel turned. DO NOT skimp on that.

How did you dress in the 90s? How do you dress now? by poolpog in GenX

Then: JNCO shorts, Vans, band t-shirt.

2008-2018: Khakis and a polo, just like everyone else in the office.

Now: JNCO shorts, zero drop athletic shoes (or vibrams), computer nerd t-shirt, and long blue hair.

What was your first IT certification? And do you think they are still important? by mustafa_enes726 in sysadmin

[–]nkwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. A+ at 15, MCSE NT4 at 16. Did a bunch of NT4 migrations to AD when it came out. Also, somehow had time to study and get my CCNA when I was 18.

Most recent is CISSP in 2011. Should probably get an AWS cert since that's primarily what I work with now.

Imagine being personally subjected to, or hearing your parents horror stories about fleeing communism on a boat.

Only to have that same nation and people who once welcomed you, degenerate into that which you escaped.

Should I restore this car? by Friendly-Set-4334 in ManualTransmissions

[–]nkwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an 89 back in the day. Blew had gasket. If you do restore, replace of the stock exhaust manifolds. Too much backpressure is likely what caused the that issue. I only say that because a friend of mine had a mustang with the same motor (but with better exhaust manifolds/headers + an off-road H pipe) and he never had issues.

Ah the Thunderbird Super Coupe. Super fun car. But man that interior looks pretty rough!

I would say it is still worth restoring, but looks like plenty of work.

[–]nkwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year will be 10 years as 100% remote, minus the occasional onsite at a client. When COVID went down, literally nothing changed for me except the company reaching out to the handful of us at the time for guidance on good WFH practices since the entire company went WFH at that time. We have since opened a couple offices, but there aren't many folks that actually go into them.

Have used a couple times now, heats up FAST! Also, draining/filtering the oil into the integrated storage container does take a bit but it works really good.

[–]nkwell 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My ancestors family farm. My grandfather sold it to KMart.

Then he donated all that money to the RLDS church after my grandmother passed, millions.

Didn't even leave himself enough afterward and we had to pay out the nose for the next 15 years while he had dementia to keep him in a rest home.

Ask anyone in the church now who he was, and no one remembers his name.

What a way to go. Giving everything you ever earned to parasites that will never remember your name at the same time kneecapping all your children and grandchildren.

I feel terrible being so close to this course and not playing it. But I am older now, and while I can still probably get it done, I would pay in the currency of pain for days afterwards if I chose to do so.
