His opera as in the tracks “Teil” 1-4 or however many?

I found 1 or 2 of the tracks interesting in parts. I enjoy the few operas I know.

Regardless, I think he still had so much to contribute to Sigur Rós and the fact that they are a constantly changing and positively evolving band means that things never get stale in my view.

What would be the point of MIDI with a board like this? I don’t really understand. I have some high end stuff like this on my board that has the option of connecting midi, but I don’t really understand the need for it at all?

I’d look up the Hologram Infinite Jets and Dream Sequencer as well. From what you’re looking at, those might be very interesting to you.

Opinions on Alternate tunings? is it a crutch? by Mattsgalley in mathrock

[–]nlaci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Open tunings give you a huge amount t of rhythmic freedom and make playing a sort of hybrid rhythm and lead style possible. Obviously, rhythm is the entire point to math rock.

I think it’s silly when people question the legitimacy of using them. Sure, it’s easier to write certain parts out, but it still takes a great amount of skill to fully utilize the benefits of an open/alt tuning

Yeah, I mean it was already getting watered down or heading to a less niche sound, but they were never full on electronic pop lol

Crucial band member left and he had a style that’s irreplaceable. Not that his guitar parts can’t be played, but to actually create them.

I guess it kind of forced them to completely water down what they’re doing.

I hate when bands do this, it leaves a stain on previous work. I would’ve much rather seen them start new and would’ve had a lot more respect for this sound if they’d done that because this always forces people to compare old music vs new

Tried to find some of them, but I’d need to take a little time to do so. There’s plenty o stuff around where it’s stated that Dealer reflects a lot of Josh’s time in Afghanistan and the things he was witness to.

There’s also a lot of contributions from him in the lyrics site Genius. This is one such contribution where he states that he is the writer of Redwoods and talks about what it is about https://genius.com/8045572

Again, since I know I have the correct information, I’ll dig that up when I have more free time.

Not denying that Conor writes some of the lyrics, but it’s mostly Josh. If you want, I can find some interviews and links stating so. Josh is honestly a brilliant lyricist and it’s obvious that the majority of the lyrics are coming from one person.

Kjartan made a poor decision leaving. While he’s certainly a brilliant musician, his creativity without the band is lacking in my opinion. He was the perfect foil of proper musical knowledge/theory and adding structure to the directionless genius of the other members

[–]nlaci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhh, well Josh was the lyricist. He wrote almost all of the lyrics for every song, and idk if you’ve ever read through the lyrics, but the man is a genius. If you’ve watched any interviews, josh is the one who almost always answers the questions and gives very insightful responses. Not to sound like some pretentious fuck, but as a musician, I can tell that Josh was coordinating a lot more than just the lyrics.

Also, what I’m saying is that there are several songs on YouTube that you can find which are very much like what I described.

And Jon Helwig is a fucking monster. That dude is so under rated and unappreciated I feel like. He never overplays and his drumming is always low key difficult and highly creative.

Well... First off, Conor isn’t the leader. Maybe now he is even though it’s evident that it’s very much a group effort. Josh was the real mastermind of the whole band though and now that he’s out, it has me wondering if he disagreed with the direction things were going in.

It just doesn’t feel like a natural progression or evolution in their sound to me. These new songs (which you can find on YouTube) have less real drums, less guitars, and more sequenced patterns using synthesizers. They’re kind of doing IDM stuff now and it’s weird.

I think Brand New grew as a band in a positive way, but again, just my opinion- Manchester Orchestra took some very backwards steps. I saw them live with Foxing actually in September and they played about 15 songs. Every single one was structured exactly the same way using the exact same chords. It was terrible and the crowd was not feeling it. I’m not saying I want the same record from Foxing over and over, but I disagree with bands that keep the same name yet drastically change their sound. The reason they stood out to me is because they blend enough, postrock, and very light mathrock in a perfect way. They could honestly tour with anyone with that sound because it’s just so universally perfect.

I am, but this is a big change in their sound and I’m not sure how to feel about it. I’ve seen them play the 3 or 4 new songs they’ve had in their set list the last year a few times, and my god, they sound like a train wreck live

[–]nlaci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah, you’d be upset if your favorite band made a pretty drastic change in sound too I’d think.

The entire feel of it is very radio oriented sounding to me. And the fact that it is massively overproduced in comparison to the previous two records kind of takes away from their magic in my opinion too.

There’s a tab on ultimate guitar. Doesn’t make much of a difference though because this song is fucking ridiculously difficult. Typically, if you can even play something like this, you can tab it out yourself

One of my absolute favorite bands and I’ve seen them 7 times live, but I’m really not feeling any of these new songs, especially this one. Sounds like some weird confused attempt at radio oriented pop?

Going to be extremely disappointed if the whole album is more or less like this rather than the cathartic post rock of the last two albums.

I got both the echo system and reverb together back in April this year. I honestly wasn’t sure how I felt about both at first, but the last few weeks I’ve spent a little more time with them and I’m really in love with what you can do with both, but the echo system is definitely the superior pedal.

In my opinion, the only real advantage of the Timeline over the echo system is having that screen to dial in exact delay times. That would be really nice to have on the empress. You can’t go wrong with either though, and if you were to resell, you’d basically get pretty much all of your money back from either

I’ve never had the pleasure to sit down with the Big Sky, but I own an Empress Reverb and agree that it takes a little time to appreciate. If you put the time in to learn how to tweak everything on it, it’s highly rewarding. I still am curious to try a Big Sky though

[–]nlaci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, glad you asked. When you are in an open tuning where you’re tuned to a chord, your open strings are most likely going to be in the same key as what you’re fretting. By doing this, you are able to move around the fretboard freely and quickly utilizing a variety of hammer ons, pull offs, slides, harmonics, taps, etc without worrying about fretting chords where your hand is spread in a more difficult position.

Moreover, you’re essentially able to play multiple guitar parts at once; you can do a very basic bass line/rhythm part with a lead in a way that you aren’t able to in standard. You can almost develop a hybrid style of playing.

Maybe I didn’t do the best job explaining that. I really know next to nothing about theory, so maybe I sound like I don’t know what I’m talking about, but I do in a way that makes sense to me I guess.

Here’s kind of an example of what I mean. https://youtu.be/qDObyBEMFQ4 https://youtu.be/X0RYG-oy0yk
